OH NO...HERE SHE COMES AGAIN!!!

I am sure that if the wildlife around here could talk they would be warning each other to watch out for that woman with the camera in her hand as she tries to inch closer and closer in order to take a close up photo. I haven't mastered using my new Nikon camera and find it so easy to put the little Canon in my pocket when I go outside in the mornings just in case I see an unsuspecting bird sitting on the clothesline or in one of the many trees on our property.

I do love our Kookaburras and was able to zoom in to take this photo this morning. I know my Northern Hemisphere readers love seeing what our wildlife looks like. These birds aren't as cheeky as the Cockatoos and don't let you get so close.

However, the camera has to be put away and work has to be done. I am continuing on the low-sugar intake journey and recently made this Paleo Inside Out Bread which was extremely tasty and didn't last very long in this household.

I have been patiently waiting for our turmeric to be ready to dig up as I want to experiment with some recipes which include turmeric this winter. It is said to be great for colds, congestion, headaches and sore throats and as we are now getting the usual warnings on the TV news about a deadly strain of flu virus which is about to reach our shores (which we hear every year without fail), it might be beneficial to start thinking about drinking some Golden Milk which I wrote about last year.

Just a reminder that this weekend our Simple Living Toowoomba group is having a Hexagon Paper Piecing Workshop so do come along if you live in the region as you will be most welcome.

Now I really must get out the Instruction Booklet for my new camera and try to understand the ins and outs of taking photos with a DSLR camera. Such a learning curve at my age! LOL!

Have a great week everyone!

  1. I am so glad you are having fun with that camera. I would be too. I hope your birds know they will be internationally famous if they pose nicely!
I am very interested in that "bread" I will try this as at least I know you found it good and I love the ingredients. We try and keep bread/ carbs down but not terribly successfully. However I never buy bread. I will do a pizza base sometimes and a few things but we dont eat sandwiches usually... I will try this it looks great, Thank you.xxx

    1. Joyful, I hope our winter isn't as long as yours was. It seemed to be dreadfully cold and long.

  4. Hi Chel, your hexagons look so pretty, such bright and beautiful colors, I have done a few projects with these and instead of hand stitching the fabric onto the shape I turn the edges and secure them with the tiny staples you can get at the newsagent. ...so much quicker, and they come out easily with a staple puller.....easy !
I am still at Moranbah till next Monday, so won't be at the workshop, hope you all have a lovely day.

  5. I chuckle when I think of you lurking around your garden camera in hand. I think I will have to make the golden milk, I'm all stuffed up at the moment, hoping I'm not coming down with something. I had better get my fabrics organised for Saturday! The weeks just slip away don't they?

  8. what gorgeous patchwork!
    LOL at Lynda D!
turmeric is also good for the memory & i eat a lot of it, i even sprinkle some in my porridge along with allspice. read somewhere that it's more beneficial first thing in the morning. i just love the taste, used to cook my rice (white) in it too so would have a lovely golden colour & mild spice flavour.
good luck with learning your new camera, been enjoying your photos so far.
    thanx for sharing

  11. Yes we do love those critters that are so foreign to us but so interesting to see! That bread looks good too. You know how this goes, once you figure out the camera it will seem easy...really!

    1. Kathy, I think it is a case of practice makes perfect with the camera. The online course I am doing has been really easy to understand so far. It is for beginners so it should be too. :-)

  13. Chel your post title made me smile. Did you take lots of photos of wildlife before you became a blogger? Before starting my blog I had maybe taken half a dozen photos in my entire life, and now I try to remember to take my camera with me in case of a good photo opportunity. I haven't taken any recently though as the fatigue has been really bad this week. I think I will be spending this evening being a lounge lizard in front of the TV - not my favourite pastime by a long shot. Thanks for bringing a bright spot into my day.

    1. Sherri, no I never used to take notice of the wildlife when I was working part time. Since I have retired I have been more aware and once I started the blog I realised how little I knew about photography. Hope you feel better soon. I got a sore throat yesterday and have been lying down much of the day. No energy to comment on blogs either :-( I will have to catch up later.
