Hot and cool days

On Monday it was really hot and the 38C temperature was a bit of a shock after the cool weather we had been having at home before I left. Patchy, the little puppy, was really hot so the plan was to give her a bath once the girls were home from school. I think she overheard the plan as she didn't look too happy.

It grew hotter as the day wore on and once the girls had had afternoon tea the bath was made ready and Patchy was rounded up and put in the tub.

She looked a bit bedraggled but I am sure she really enjoyed being cooled down. The weather here in The Outback can be incredibly hot and I am sure she will get used to it eventually even though I never will.

That night a strong wind blew in and we awoke the next morning to quite a cool day and it has been cool since then....just like home. The locals even had jumpers on today and I would have had too if I had brought one with me.

There are some plants that grow well here despite the heat including beautiful roses as the previous owners had planted many different varieties here including this beauty.

I only have two more days before heading home again and then it will be another six months before I see the children again so I will make the most of the time I have left. They grow so quickly in between visits and it would be nice to see them more often but the fares are too expensive unfortunately. I always book my flights when they are on special but I spoke to a grandma today who paid $800 to fly return from Brisbane to visit her grandchildren. Such exorbitant prices! It is cheaper to fly overseas.

  1. Roses love dry heat - no mildew-based issues to deal with. We used to grow glorious roses in Adelaide for the same reason....but since moving to NSW coast our rose growing has been very poor.

    1. I knew they grew well in SA but I didn't realise that was the reason, Mr.HM. They grow well in Toowoomba too.

  2. Our dog loved water but still hated baths. We kept a toddlers wading pool in the back yard for her during summer so she could go in their for a dip when she was hot.

    1. That is a great idea, Sherri. The only problem is there is a toddler here.
