It's in the bag ~ Share the Dignity.

Last year I heard about the charity called Share the Dignity which was started to provide sanitary products to homeless women many of which are victims of domestic violence who have had to leave their homes at a moment's notice. From 19th November to 3rd December the 'It's in the Bag' campaign is asking Aussies to fill a bag they no longer need with items that would make a woman feel special and to let her know she matters and that someone cares about her.

With the donations being dropped off to the collection points throughout Australia by the 3rd December there is time to get the bags delivered to charities that look after needy women and also to get them out to remote areas before Christmas as we know that a lot of our farming women are doing it tough at the moment due to the continuing drought.

I am a bit late with getting my bag of goodies together but a friend has allowed me to use the photos she took of her bags which she has probably already dropped off.

If you live in Australia and would like to contribute here are some ideas suggested by Share the Dignity:

Pads and tampons
Baby wipes, cleansing wipes and tissues
Deodorants and perfume
Soap
Shampoo and conditioner, shampoo in a can
Toothpaste and toothbrush
Hair ties and hair brush
Sunscreen
Movie voucher,  gift voucher, meal voucher
Poncho
Scarf
Jewellery or trinket
Lotions, creams
Card or notebook
Socks and undies

No food, pharmaceuticals or sharps e.g razors, knives or scissors should be put in the bags for various reasons.

There are some gift cards you might like to print out to add to your bag.

Once you have filled up your bag you then drop it off at your closest Collection Point

I think this is a great idea. Of course if you live in other countries as many of my readers do, I am sure you would have similar organisations collecting donations for those less fortunate than ourselves. Many churches are collection points in lots of cities in Australia and I daresay it is the same overseas.

So let's help those in our community who are doing it tough this Christmas. It can be a difficult time for many people who don't have family and friends around so hopefully we can brighten up their lives a little by our generosity.

  1. Chel thanks for this information. When I looked up the collection point for our area I got all teary eyed. The lady who runs the business at this collection point was a tower of strength for me when I had my cancer diagnosis back in 2014. It is very typical of this lady to step in to help others.

    1. You're welcome Chris. I first heard about it on the D2E forum and thought I would spread the word.

  4. Similar things go on here in the US with our shelters for women and children. Good to be reminded in a busy time of year - we get so busy we forget the real meaning! Thanks

  5. Thanks for making me aware of this Chel. I've looked for a drop off place, and there's one very near to me, so I can easily do this small thing. A wonderful idea.

  6. Chel, I first saw this on Facebook, and I love it. I have 3 bags ready to go, and thanks to your link, I have found a drop off point, five minutes from where I live. I'll be dropping them today. Thanks so much. Mimi xxx
