Time flies

I can't believe it is over two months since I have written a blog post. I am not always sure I have anything interesting to say and have noticed that a lot of bloggers have stopped blogging perhaps opting for the quicker way of communicating on Instagram. I have noticed many changes in the blogging world since COVID began in 2020. Still, life goes on and here are a few bits and pieces of what life is like here in this neck of the woods where the days are sunny and the nights are getting cool as winter is just around the corner.

Yesterday, our ex simple living group caught up for a coffee and a chat as, even though we no longer have our guest speakers teaching us about new skills, we like to keep in contact.

Our lovely hostess had some of the beautiful flowers she grows displayed on the tables and we also enjoyed a walk around her 2 acre garden which, in the past, has been an exhibition garden in the Carnival of Flowers. The swap table was groaning under the weight of homegrown produce, etc. (slight exaggeration there) and we all came home with some goodies. It is great being with like minded people who share their produce and tips on how to grow this and that.

I ran out of sourdough recently and decided to make a loaf myself in the breadmaker using Elly's recipe but, as I have mentioned before, my breadmaker only bakes for one hour when the recipe says to cook the loaf for 1 hour 30 minutes, the top never goes brown but that is okay as I slice the bread before freezing it and use a slice at a time for lunch and toast it so it is cooked alright in the end. The white patch in the photo is from the sun by the way.

We have had a lot of rain recently and I found these growing in the garden. It was very wet here for a few days but thankfully we didn't have the extreme rainfall that our southern state of New South Wales has just had. Our roof is leaking so it is just as well the rain wasn't worse here.

Recently I visited a little town not too far from here and bought some plants from the nursery of the well known Penny McKinlay She gives her gardening tips on the local TV station and on radio and is quite a character.

I came home with a red alstroemeria  and a pompom argyranthemum. Penny has so many plants in her nursery I was spoiled for choice.

As it is getting cool the pansies have been planted and the petunias have been pulled out plus the sweet peas are well and truly on their way and are enjoying the cool weather. Now, we just hope the possums don't take a liking to them or else I won't be too happy as they cause so much damage.

This plant which I thought was a yellow pompom chrysanthemum has really spread so is being pulled out and grown in a pot. It looks lovely when it is flowering but it is time to go.

I wasn't happy to have 17 stitches in my upper arm to remove what turned out to be a benign lesion and was surprised when the doc took out so much of my arm. If I have to have something like that removed again I will be asking to see a specialist. I am a bit over having bits and pieces cut out. So much for living in the worst state for skin cancers not that I sunbake or am exposed to the sun a lot but, apparently the damage is done when we are young and how many young people will listen to the warnings about melanoma and other skin cancers? How wise we become when we get older. LOL!

I hope everyone is keeping well and happy and enjoying life.

  1. Hi Chel, wow that argyranthemum is a stunner. The weather is just lovely at the moment but the forecast is for some very cool nights ahead. Hubby is finishing wrapping up our green house in plastic so the more delicate garden residents have somewhere to ride out the frosts. I find being in the garden very soothing and you get produce 😀 love Barb

    1. Barb, I don’t think we are far off getting frosts here. I hope your plants survive the winter. It seems these days I have to approve my own comments if I reply to a comment. Technology 😡 Chel
