Button Jewellery Workshop

On the weekend our Simple Living Toowoomba group had our last workshop for the year and we learned how to make necklaces and bracelets using buttons. It was a great finish to the year and we all had a lot of fun.

Firstly the ten of us who attended the workshop gathered around the table and sorted through the buttons while deciding on the 'right' design of necklace or bracelet.  I really enjoyed just the sorting part of the process and found it quite therapeutic.

Prior to the workshop I had bought some black and white beads with my latest $10 Spotlight voucher but when I got to the workshop and saw the vast array of beads that our co-ordinator, Margy, had brought along, I was mesmerised by the different colours so I opted to make a colourful but simple necklace instead.

As I had procrastinated while sorting out my colours at the beginning of the workshop I didn't get my second necklace finished. The one I actually finished had orange and purple tones.

Some of the other ladies were very conscientious though and finished a couple of items.

The table we worked on didn't provide a real good background for photos unfortunately.

This little cutie made a necklace and bracelet (with a little help from mum).

Margy had brought along some of the white and black buttons that I was originally going to use for a necklace so it was interesting to see the design she used for her necklace.

Another lady used the same buttons with pink for a different look.

This necklace is similar to the one which Rhonda made on her http://down---to---earth.blogspot.com.au/blog a while back. We used beading wire for our necklaces and bracelets but Rhonda used a needle and bead thread to make her necklace and you can read the tutorial here.

Of course you are spoiled for choice on Pinterest and if you click on this link you may not surface for a while and your family may go hungry. :-)

We had such a variety of workshops this year and learned many new skills including how to make cheese, bread, a no-dig garden as well as cards and button jewellery. If you would like to have a look at some photos of the workshops you can see them here. Our workshops won't resume until after Easter next year and Margy has some great workshops planned for 2014.

If you live in the region you are most welcome to come along and for more information check out the Simple Living Toowoomba website or myself on the contact form on the sidebar.

    1. Shiralee, it was fun wasn't it? I am going to undo the second necklace I started making but will leave the orange and purple one as it is. I wore it yesterday and got a few comments. :-)

    1. Yes Zena, I love those and that is the type I was originally going to make but will eventually get around to it. I got side-tracked by all the different buttons Margy had brought along. There is something therapeutic about running your fingers through all those lovely buttons. LOL! Yes that little girl is a real cutie isn't she?

  3. Hi Marie. Welcome to my blog. I can't understand your language and couldn't get the cursor to sit on your 'translate' button on your blog but you have some cute things on there.

  4. Buttons inside buttons looks great. Love the great designs everyone came up with. Wish I could have been there :)

  5. Tania, you should start up a simple living group up there....in your spare time! LOL! We are fortunate in that we don't have to pay rent for the church hall but I am sure there would be plenty of people in your area who would like to participate in a plant swap or something similar every month or so although that may already be happening.

  6. Oh how fun! I inherited my mother in law's button collection - currently at 5 quarts (slightly less than a liter, and yes I do keep them in jars!) and I love running my fingers through them and sorting. Think it comes from grandma letting me play with hers as a child. Good memory associations! I will have to try these.
