Cutlery wind chimes

Recently when I was looking for tutorials on how to stamp cutlery for my recent post 'Stamped Spoon Plant Markers'  I came across some cutlery wind chimes on Pinterest which look very interesting. Then, on a trip to a local Op Shop, I found this very unusual object which I think is a vase and thought it would be great to use for a wind chime project.

It has three pieces to it and I think that if I glue the part with holes into one of the other sections and turn it upside down, I could attach the wire which holds the cutlery.

Also I spied this plate which needs a clean up like the vase and if I could drill holes in it I could use that as a hanger too. Hmmm, a few ideas there to work through. There are so many inspirational ideas for making wind chimes on Pinterest. The hard part is deciding which one to make.

We had some much appreciated relief from the second heatwave this month when storms rolled across the south east on Wednesday night. There was a lot of lightning and a little hail and, while we didn't get the really heavy flooding rains that Gatton and Brisbane got, we did get some refreshing rain...

...and I am sure all our plants were very happy. The temperature dropped about 14 degrees within a short space of time and before long we were reaching for the jumpers. Talk about extremes of weather within the space of an hour or so! I am not complaining though as it has been very dry and hot here.
So, what do you think about the cutlery wind chimes on Pinterest? Which one do you like best?

  1. Yes, I love them too, but I think my manfolk won't. Seems to hate them. I have one windchime in a tree away from the house. Still hates it! I might just sneak another one or two if I get around to one of these.

    1. Barb, I could hang one on our front verandah. I wonder if the men would notice :-)

  2. I was shopping my favorite charity shop yesterday, for supplies to use when we begin the crafting gig and found the best bunch of really sad old tableware knives. I thought they would make a deeper and more mellow sound, maybe easier to hear in this crazily windy place.

Why do you think to not use knives? Esthetics? Afraid of sharp stuff?

Anyway, I like these images and am certainly going to totally bead-up my chime.

  3. J, I'd love to see yours when you have made it. I just thought the knives might be a bit dangerous to have hanging. I have a vision of my husband sitting under the wind chime with a knife sticking out of his head. LOL!

  4. You must be very pleased to have some rain and cooler weather. We're getting a bit too.

Love the op shop find, and the colander orb. Looking forward to seeing your creation!

  5. Awesome idea! I can't wait to see how yours turns out, and I had a good laugh at your reasoning for not using knives! (I know it's not really funny and I shouldn't laugh at others misfortunes and it was only a verbal picture....) Cute ideas though!

    1. Kathy, yes it does sound funny but I doubt my husband would think so. Ha ha! It would make a good cartoon in a newspaper wouldn't it?
