IT WAS A QUIET DAY AS IT WASN'T A KINDY DAY. DADDY WAS AT WORK, BIG SISTER HAD GONE TO SCHOOL AND MUMMY WAS BUSY HANGING OUT THE WASHING. FAITHY WAS LYING ON THE TRAMPOLINE WATCHING THE BIRDS IN THE TREES ABOVE WHEN SHE SAW A PRETTY BUTTERFLY FLY PAST.
SHE GOT UP QUICKLY AND CALLED TO MUMMY TO HELP HER GET OFF THE TRAMPOLINE AS SHE WANTED TO FOLLOW THE BUTTERFLY BUT, BY THE TIME MUMMY HAD LIFTED HER DOWN, IT WAS NOWHERE TO BE SEEN.
SHE WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED AS IT HAD LOOKED VERY PRETTY AND SHE WANTED TO HAVE A CLOSER LOOK AT IT. SO SHE THOUGHT SHE WOULD ASK AROUND IN CASE ANYONE ELSE HAD SEEN IT.
SHE HEARD THE KOOKABURRAS, DORIS AND BORIS, LAUGHING IN THE TREE NEXT DOOR AND ASKED THEM IF THEY HAD SEEN THE BUTTERFLY BUT THEY HADN'T AS THEY WERE TOO BUSY HAVING A CHUCKLE.
THEN SHE ASKED THE SQUAWKING COCKATOO, STEVE, IF HE HAD SEEN IT BUT HE SAID THAT HE HAD BEEN TOO OCCUPIED EATING NANNA'S MACADAMIA NUTS TO NOTICE.
JUST THEN SHE SPOTTED TAWNY THE FROGMOUTH SITTING IN A NEARBY TREE AND ASKED HIM AS WELL BUT HE HAD BEEN SLEEPING ALL DAY AS HE HAD HAD A HECTIC NIGHT OUT CATCHING MICE.
NANNU'S KING PIGEON, BIG KEV, WAS NO HELP EITHER AS HE HAD BEEN WORN OUT FROM FLYING AROUND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AND HAD BEEN HAVING A SNOOZE LIKE TAWNY.
COCO HAD BEEN BUSY EATING THE CARROTS NANNA HAD GIVEN HER SO HADN'T BEEN LOOKING OUT FOR BUTTERFLIES....
...AND NEITHER HAD POPS AS HE HAD BEEN TRYING TO EAT SOME OF THE CARROTS BEFORE COCO FINISHED THEM ALL OFF.
THE NEWCOMER WITH THE LONG NECK, HARRY THE HERON, HAD HAD HIS HEAD DOWN LOOKING FOR GRUBS AND DIDN'T NOTICE EITHER.
FAITHY WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT SHE COULDN'T FIND THE BUTTERFLY SO SHE ASKED THE CHOOKS WHAT THEY THOUGHT AND THEY SAID TO ASK THOMAS, AS HE HAD BEEN SITTING AROUND ALL MORNING DUE TO FEELING A BIT 'OFF' AND MIGHT HAVE NOTICED WHERE THE BUTTERFLY WENT.
SO SHE ASKED THOMAS AND HE SAID THAT HE HAD SEEN MUMMY LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN AND THE BUTTERFLY HAD FLOWN INSIDE.
FAITHY WAS VERY EXCITED AND RAN INSIDE TO MUMMY AND ASKED HER IF SHE HAD SEEN IT. MUMMY SAID THAT SHE HAD BEEN DOING THE HOUSEWORK BUT THOUGHT SHE HAD NOTICED SOMETHING FLY IN WHEN SHE LEFT THE DOOR OPEN AND TO HAVE A LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE JUST IN CASE IT HAD BEEN THE BUTTERFLY.
SHE LOOKED IN ALL THE ROOMS APART FROM HER BEDROOM BUT IT WAS NOWHERE TO BE SEEN. SHE WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED AND, FEELING A LITTLE SAD, SHE WENT INTO HER ROOM TO READ A BOOK AND....WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT....THERE WAS THE BUTTERFLY ON THE WINDOW!
SHE CALLED MUMMY TO COME AND HAVE A LOOK. MUMMY QUICKLY GRABBED HER CAMERA AND TOOK A PHOTO OF FAITHY WITH THE BUTTERFLY AND THEN THEY OPENED THE WINDOW AND LET IT FLY AWAY.
NOW FAITHY CAN LOOK AT THE PRETTY BUTTERFLY WHENEVER SHE WANTS TO.

HAPPY 4TH BIRTHDAY, FAITHY! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!
That's a great story! I liked how you had the suspense building until the end. Your grand-daughter will love it. Her own special story.
ReplyDeleteBarb, she just loves wildlife and I am sure she will love the story too.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I love about Nana's ... they have time for writing wonderful stories!! It is a gorgeous story and I am certain Faithy will treasure it and remember her 4th birthday. Happy Birthday Faithy:)
ReplyDeleteShe has read the story this morning and wondered why Nanna had said that Mummy had taken the photo as Nanna had! :-) How do you explain what 'pretend' is to a 4 year old? LOL!
DeleteOMG, that is just soooo gorgeous Nanna Chel. Brought tears to my eyes thinking of little Faith reading or listening to her story. Hopefully it will still be there when she is a Nanna too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tanya. Eventually I will get it printed out so that she has a hard copy too.
DeleteYer goofy. Yer coo-coo. I would not say you are actually nutso, but, oh, sometimes, you come so close. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a perfectly lovely story. Any child, and many grown-ups, would love to have a little story about themselves. Just so nice, and you are an excellent photographer, too. Just saying.
Ha ha J, when I started reading your comment I almost put it in the spam folder then I saw who it was from and read the rest. LOL! Thanks for the compliments. Just sayin' :-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful story, lovely pictures, warm fuzzy feeling....sigh with a smile!!
ReplyDeleteNow that you are a new grandma you will be writing stories soon too, Kathy. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteYou can put me with the spam. I would never know. :) I probably deserve to be there some days anyway.
ReplyDeleteJ, I would never do that :-)
