She wasn't very happy and wondered who was the culprit. So she thought she would ask around to find out if anyone could help her solve the mystery.
She was passing by the shed and saw Mrs.Possum watching her so she asked her if she had eaten the vegetables. She said she had been too busy jumping on the roof with her friends in the early hours of the morning to notice anything.....
...but then she heard a lot of squawking overhead and saw the cockatoos arriving for breakfast and thought they may have seen something.
So Nanna asked Boris if he could help but he was too busy eating macadamias to answer...
...so she went around the front and asked his friend Clancy while he was busy feasting on pecan nuts and he said there were a couple of galahs in the tree next door who might be able to assist.
Sadly they had seen nothing but then Nanna saw Mr.Kookaburra and knew that he had a keen eye....
...but alas he had been asleep at the time as he had a full tummy from eating lots of insects.
Leah and Robert the Bruce were no help either as Leah had been busy giving birth to four babies during the night just in time for Easter Sunday which was a big surprise for Nanna.
Then she spied an orange spider who had spun a web just near the vegetable patch and thought that surely she had seen the culprit but no. She said she had been too busy spinning so that she could catch something to eat but to ask her friend who was nearby...
...but he was absolutely no help either and was a bit annoyed that he was interrupted.
Nanna was none the wiser about who had chomped on her vegetables. So she told the chooks that it was just a mystery and they said to her that if she would let them out of their cage they would look after her vegetable patch for her. Do you think she should?
If you would like to read another story I wrote for my littlest granddaughter for her last birthday you can read Mummy, where did the pretty butterfly fly to? in an earlier post. Have a great day everyone!
Hi Chel, lovely story, kids love repetition, hope you had a relaxing Easter, how is the shrug coming along ?
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret. I am trying to do a few rows a day. Lots of stitches to do :-) It might be finished next winter.
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes Deb, it will be in Book Week this year. LOL!
DeleteThat was really sweet. It would make a lovely Australian children's book. Just missing a kangaroo and a wombat at the bottom of the garden. Pamela Allen (my favorite) should be nervous.
ReplyDeleteLynda, no kangaroos or wombats here. I don't think Pamela Allen should be nervous. Mem Fox either. :-)
Deletea lovely little story! think the girls will get a good giggle out of that & no i don't think you should let the chooks into the vegie patch! lol!
ReplyDeletethanx for sharing
Selina, I am not sure that the girls would realise what the chooks would do as they don't have any at their place.
DeleteI'm thinking the 'chooks' have ulterior motives!! Charming story and I agree that you could probably turn it into a best seller for kids. (or fascinated Americans who love to see all the strange creatures you share a country with!) Keep it up!!
ReplyDeleteI thought you would enjoy seeing the photos, Kathy. I couldn't find a red bellied black snake to take a photo of for you. Ha ha!
DeleteI am sure your granddaughters loved their story. It was a treat for me to read it too! I hope you had a lovely Easter, Chel.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Sherri. Yes we had a quiet Easter and spent it mostly at home.
DeleteNanna Chel,
ReplyDeleteI think you should hand print out your story, paste in your photos, make it up into a simple book so your grand kids will have their Nanna's story. And I think your chooks have ulterior motives too.
Hope you had a blessed Easter.
-Shiralee
Shiralee, are you sure the chooks have ulterior motives? LOL!
DeleteThis is so sweet. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThe chooks might have good intentions but then they won't be able to control themselves!
You could end up with published children's books I think! Xxx
Glad you like it, Annabel. No I wouldn't trust the chooks! :-)
ReplyDeleteLovely story. I wouldn't trust those chooks though as I think they have ulterior motives!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure, Robyn? LOL!
DeleteLovely story, Chel and I bet you were extremely surprised on Sunday morning with the arrival of four little babies.
ReplyDeleteBlinky, I thought the mum may have been pregnant but didn't think she would have four bubs. Now we have to keep an eye on them to see which are males so they can be taken out of the cage as we have enough guinea pigs for now. They are good lawn mowers. LOL!
DeleteI love your story. How sweet. Oh my goodness at the kinds of birds. The birds that fly freely we have to marvel at a zoo (which is sad to me) and you have them in your yard. Love it.
ReplyDeleteChrissy, we have quite an assortment of wildlife here. I never really noticed when I was working but now that I have retired I have become more aware of the birds that like our trees and nuts. :-)
