More UFOs finished!

If I just sat down and spent a day sewing I would have most of my UFOs finished off in no time. Unfortunately I don't get a whole day to myself to do that and as I don't have a craft room anything I work on has to be packed up at the end of the session which is a bit of a deterrent when one tends to procrastinate anyway. I have finished off a couple more little skirts which I cut out ages ago.

This one is made from a scrap of dog themed fabric which was left over after I started making a dress for one of my granddaughters when she was about three but unfortunately I scorched and wrecked it. She is about to turn six so I thought I would make what was left into a skirt which she may or may not like depending on whether it is comfortable as she is fussy about what she wears just like her mother was. I can remember the tantrums when I put something on my girl which was uncomfortable. I added some large ric rac braid which was a pain to sew on as I couldn't see what I was doing so it wasn't a good idea to use darker thread. I don't think a six year old will mind though.

This skirt was made using the instructions for the Lazy Days Skirt which I have mentioned before. That's all the skirts I have cut out done and dusted now. I am not quite sure where they are all going to at this stage.

I have sewn up all the rows on the rag quilt and now just have to sew around the outside, snip the seam edges, give it a big shake outside to get rid of some of the loose cotton, wash it in a pillowcase to catch the threads and then put it in the dryer which I stop every ten minutes or so to clean the filter.  I am looking forward to seeing how my new rag quilt snips work and whether my hands get as sore as they did when cutting the last two quilts.

Of course when you are trying to finish off your sewing UFOs you start another project don't you? :-)
When I went outside the other morning to let Sally Girl out and feed the guinea pigs, there was a real nip in the air and I thought that I might need some mittens soon not that I normally wear mittens or gloves. I had seen a pair of fingerless mittens on Pinterest which were knitted by a beginner knitter so I thought I would try out the easy pattern.  I just have to learn how to join them up using a mattress stitch as she suggests. I have no idea what a mattress stitch is but I am about to find out. I used some yarn I picked up at Vinnies which is really thick and used size 12mm needles so it is knitting up  quickly. Just what I like!

It is another long weekend in Queensland as Monday is a public holiday for Labor Day. If you live in our wonderful state I hope you take some time out to relax and enjoy our cooler weather after such a long summer.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I really need to get a move on my UFO's as well. Plus stop starting new projects until I am done. Your skirts are very cute by the way. I am sure a little girl would love them.
What kind of flower is that? Very pretty. :)

  2. I love seeing all your projects again! I've missed you all so! Such darling little skirts. Someday I will have grands to sew for and I will have time to do it too! :)
Another think I enjoy about visiting you is the changing of our seasons. We are going into Spring/Summer and you are transitioning into Fall/Winter. I must say that I am glad we are warming up. I'd love to come visit you in our winter months. They are terrible here. Well, I hope to be back around more frequently. baring nothing comes up again that knocks me out! :) LOL! Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. Monica, lovely to see you again. Yes the change in the seasons in the different hemispheres is very interesting to see on blogs isn't it? I always love seeing photos of the snow but I know that those who live there get sick of it.

    1. Barb, I have never seen that recommended anywhere but I did it anyway because of the loose threads. I used a fairly big one and it turned out well. I just had to make sure I remembered to clean the dryer filter regularly as well.

  5. Lovely work Nanna Chel! It's so satisfying to finish off things that have been sitting around. One thing about what you said concerns me though. I always whistfully think of the days when my children are grown and I will have days to myself to do what I want. Will life be as busy then as it is now? Probably, but I like to dream :)

    1. Kelly, I am a carer so that is what makes the difference. Otherwise I would be able to do what I want when I want. At least I presume I would be able to ;-)

  6. Hope your fingers and hands stand up to the rag quilt snipping, Chel. It would be good to be able to do it in stages over a few days maybe.....although, I do remember you saying you are off to The Isa again soon and probably need to get it finished in time.

  7. You are so good to be finishing these off! I belong to a craft group that aims to teach a lot of new things to us, which is good. On the other hand, they all seem to spend a lot more time crafting than I can fit in. I've finally started to be quite picky about which ones I join in and I'm getting better at not working on more than a couple of projects at a time, but I still have a huge stack of UFOs.

    1. Shelley, I don't churn out the finished projects like some people do.I don't like sitting too long at a time as I get stiff so just work in short sessions.

  8. Gorgeous skirts! I have to set up my machine on the kitchen table before I use it too, so I know what you mean about procrastination!

    1. Mel, it is so much easier with a craft room where the sewing machine can be left set up all the time.

  9. Oh such a guilt inducing post, my stack of UFO's just keeps growing and I need to have another limit on myself where I don't get to buy or start anything new till it is all finished up!! Bravo!!
