Winding down

Our holiday is almost over, the packing is nearly done and the forecast for tomorrow is for HOT weather so I hope to leave really early to beat the heat. This week it has been quieter here in Caloundra after the crowds of last week and at the weekend. I was wondering if there was a Baby Boomer convention on when we arrived as there were so many grey haired people around...including myself of course :-) However it is time to go home and back to routine once again.

A couple of days ago we paid a visit to Gracie's home. Don't be fooled by her innocent look as she is always up to mischief and really likes to chew on strappy sandals and feet. She keeps Rhonda and Hanno on their toes. I took some more photos of her on my camera so will share them when I get home.

There are some beautiful beaches to visit around Caloundra including Moffat Beach which is only a few minutes from the popular Kings Beach. The surf is a bit wild here so I would recommend that visitors surf between the flags at Kings Beach instead where it is safer and where there are lifesavers.

For the energetic visitors there are walkways right around the coastline from Happy Valley to beyond Dicky Beach. I am not that energetic but I am sure some people would take advantage of them particularly in the cooler weather as it would be too hot to walk that far at the moment.

There are changes being made in the main street as lots of really old trees are being replaced by smaller ones. Apparently they are a hazard and I was told the branch of one landed on a lady's car windscreen. Still it was sad seeing them being dug out.

Despite the forecast of storms it hasn't rained this week so we didn't see the amazing sunsets we enjoyed last year after storms hit. Still the swan kept us entertained most nights and wasn't scared of the families playing on the beach.

I am not sure if we will be back again next year as there are new estates going up and it is going to be even busier. The locals are already complaining about the congestion on the road into Caloundra which is bumper to bumper in the morning. Perhaps one or two more visits...time will tell :-)

We have been watching the US elections on and off today as several TV channels covered the election all day which my US readers may not know. There will be some interesting times ahead I feel. Enjoy the rest of the week everyone and if you are in Queensland...keep cool!

  1. I used to love swimming at Moffat Beach when I was a wee thing, especially Tooway (Tui-wai) lake. My mother had a part time job at the shop at Kings Beach back in those days it was always a treat to walk from Kings Beach to the shop to say hello.

Isn't that a curse from somewhere "may you live in interesting times"!? Your beach vacation sounded like fun, hope your trip home is safe and uneventful.

    1. Kathy, indeed there will be interesting times ahead! My son was really tired so I watched the election for ages. I went out for only a couple of hours and when I came back the results had totally changed in that time. I was gobsmacked.

  5. Oh how sad about those trees, that was one of the reasons we loved it. Lots of shady spots to park or just rest the legs. Even sadder that the place is getting bigger, looks like we might have to find another place to holiday, any suggestions? Have a great time, Guida.

    1. Guida, I think it won't be too bad up there for a couple of years but once those new estates are finished I think it will be a lot busier. Probably no different to what is happening here but at least I know the roads here :-) Last week was a lot busier along the beach than this week for some reason so if you are careful about the times you are on the highway into town it is not so bad. It is bumper to bumper coming in to Caloundra in the early morning I believe. We arrived around 10am so it was okay then.

  6. Dear Nanna Chel, The scenery up there looks gorgeous! I am worn out as I also watched the election results. I bit my nails a lot.
Many of the ladies on the blog are from the US and they made me much more interested.
Have a safe trip home! Much love Annabel.xxx

    1. Yes Annabel, a lot of my readers are from the US too and I was wondering how they coped with such a long election. Ours only last a few months so are very different.
