A week of challenges

It has been a challenging week with one thing or another and was finished off with me being locked out of my Google account which meant I couldn't write a blog post but I have just discovered I could get into Blogger by using a different browser. Technology!!!

We had more light rain but it looks like it will now be fine and sunny for a few days. Hopefully it won't be too hot as there is so much weeding that needs to be done. I should have sprayed with Slasher but we seemed to be having showers each day and by the time I got out into the garden to pull out a few weeds I was met by a waist high jungle! It is going to take some time to tame it once again.

We are being told to prepare for the Corona virus by our government  and I wonder how everyone is reacting. I buy a couple of extra things when I buy groceries but don't have room to stockpile and normally there are only two of us here and we don't eat much. We have enough New Zealand spinach growing here to keep us from starvation I am sure. It has taken over the garden after the rain.

I am not too perturbed at my age and am just grateful that I wasn't on a cruise when there was an outbreak and had to be quarantined in a cabin for two weeks. Wouldn't that be dreadful! I am not a fan of cruising anyway as the three day rough trip to New Zealand when I was 18 put me off for life. I was sick for most of the trip and only appeared on deck on the last day from memory. No wonder the ship was nicknamed 'The Tasman Tub'. Never again.

This is short and sweet but I just wanted to say hi to those who read my blog. I would appreciate your prayers as some issues are sorted out plus my elderly sister has had two lots of skin cancer surgery this week and isn't supposed to be walking around too much so will need care as well.

Have a wonderful weekend.

  1. Glad you found a way to get into Blogger, Chel. I've not had any problems with it but then there's always a first time! In terms of preparedness for Coronavirus, I had a look at both the QLD and NSW government emergency websites and both had a pantry stockpile list. I compared that to what I had in my little stockpile and added a few extra things I wouldn't normally buy, like long-life milk, to my shopping list and picked them up when I did the grocery shop yesterday. All the supermarkets I went to had sold out of hand gel but luckily I already have a few bottles of that. I didn't buy anything that I thought we'd never use. I would much rather be quarantined at home for two weeks, there's plenty to do round here, than on a cruise ship. I am like you; cruising is not for me.

Hope all will be well soon for you and for your sister too. Sending love and kindness to you. MegXx

    1. Meg, our son has been using the PC and has changed some settings so I think that was the problem not necessarily Blogger. I had to take my sister to the doctor this morning as her wound bled through the dressing during the night. Hopefully it settles down now.

  2. I hope your issues get sorted soon and I wish you strength in caring for your sister, and be assured that you will be in my thoughts and prayers. I plan to stock up on some extra staples, but have also bought up sewing supplies as already some things are not being sent from China. We will also make sure that we have extra fuel for our generators in case of power outages (we tend to have a few). And I think the spaghetti squash plant in my garden will feed us for quite a while!

    1. Thanks for your prayer, Wendy. I think the factories being closed in China are going to cause a lot of shortages soon. So much for relying on imports so much.

  3. Hi Chel, I have breathed a prayer for you both today.

I don't really need to stock up, I reckon I could feed us for two weeks from the pantry in each of our houses.

As for being locked up in a boat for two weeks, I am unlikely to find myself in that situation as I don't care for being out on the water. If I was stuck in quarantine I reckon I would download on my phone War and Peace and every other long classic I wish I had time to read and alternate this with 'scribbling' away

    1. Thank you, Joan. Like you there is no chance of me being on a cruise. LOL!

  5. Glad you found your way through the technology maze! I grew New Zealand spinach for the first time last year & will be growing it again this season. Would you share your favorite ways to use this prolific grower? Diane from Minnesota

    1. Diane, it is growing as a weed here and I know it is edible but I have never used it to be honest. I have seen a lot of info online about it though particularly about the way it should be prepared for a meal as I believe it can't be eaten raw.

  8. Hope your issues are sorted soon Chel and that your sister is on the mend also.

Sorry to hear you have had PC problems.

I have stocked up on a few things in preparation for convid 19. Hope it is not as bad as it is looking on the TV everyday. Pretty scary. I am of the same opinion about cruise ships, although I have never been on one. They just don't interest me.

    Take care,
    xTania

    1. Tania, the virus is odd as some people have no symptoms while others get sick. Plus one lady who had been on a cruise and was quarantined got reinfected so I wonder whether one actually can build up immunity.

  9. Thinking of you Chel & hope your life’s hiccoughs get sorted.
I love cruises, today’s ships would be a lot more stable than they were when you were 18, but I’d go crazy stuck in an inside cabin for 2 weeks - a balcony cabin I could cope with if I had my reading, knitting & stitching with me. A balcony cabin in Alaska last year was fantastic!

    1. Thanks Lyn. The issues are ongoing at this stage unfortunately. Yes if I was ever tempted to cruise I would have to have a balcony cabin 😃

  10. I just read this Chel. Sorry that you are having a bit of a rough time of it. I hope all the issues get sorted out quickly. I was up your way yesterday. I was with my daughter as she was visiting bridal stores looking for a dress. We were in Brisbane the day before. So far there is not dress purchased. It was so lovely and cool in Toowoomba. When we got home last night we found the heat and humidity once more. It is raining now so hopefully it will cool down soon. Bluey and I have enough of everything to bunker down here for when the virus arrives. Stay safe and hope all issues get sorted soon.

  11. Jane it is quite cool tonight again tonight although the day was muggy. Thanks for your well wishes. The issue is ongoing unfortunately and I have discovered I am not as resilient as I was when I was younger.
