As anyone who has been reading my blog for a while would know, September is the month when our city becomes a hive of activity as thousands of tourists descend on the area to view the spectacular parks and gardens that come into bloom at the beginning of Spring.
As the Carnival of Flowers normally doesn't start until the last few weeks of September and this year the Council decided to hold it for the whole month, presumably to help the tourism operators who have been affected by the lack of visitors from the lockdown areas recently, my hubby and I decided to view Queens Park to see if the flowers were blooming yet.
...and the occasional blue wren etc. that flies in. They broms certainly look a lot healthier than ours do which were badly hit by the dreadful frost we had towards the end of winter. Check out the opening times on the cafe's Facebook page.
This week a friend and I are checking out the scones at the Croquet Club at Laurel Bank Park. I believe they are open from 8am to 3pm from Friday to Monday until the 26th September. I love Laurel Bank Park and look forward to viewing the gardens and seeing what the theme is this year. If you can't find a park nearby find Clifford Street between Herries and Hill Streets then turn into Laurel Lane and follow that along until you come to the park and there is nearly always a parking area in that spot depending on what time of day you visit. Of course the earlier the better as lots of busses seem to arrive around 10am or so.
Enjoy your visit if you do decide to visit. The weather this weekend is supposed to be warm and sunny and hopefully there won't be any of those annoying winds.
The flowers are amazing, such an abundance of colour. and I love cafes and social enterprises that are so dedicated to helping those who have had a rough start in life. So important.

Hi Emma. Good to hear from you. Hope you are all keeping safe and well.
DeleteLovely photos as always of the gardens Chel. If we get back to Toowoomba we'll support the social enterprise cafe, such a worthwhile initiative. I like the way they have mounted their broms on the wall, we have the one with the pink spike, Matchstick Bromeliad I think it's called? It's great to see the carnival being so successful again despite the madness of the pandemic. Thanks for sharing it with us. Best wishes, Pauline
ReplyDeleteYes the young people do a great job and are always very friendly at the cafe. We have the brom you mentioned too.
DeleteI've been to another cafe on Railway street, closer to Betros. I didn't know there was another on the same street though. Will have to keep it in mind, the next time David and I, stop for morning tea. We like a good coffee!!
ReplyDeleteOur gully is filled with smoke, since this afternoon. As there's a planned burn-off, near Gatton. The wind is just blowing in our direction, no danger. Did you see the smoke plumes from the mountain? All I could think was, imagine what the Tourists for the Carnival, driving up The Range must think? Those are some lovely flowers to see though!
Chris, Emerge Cafe is where the old Engine Room Cafe was. Yes I did think it was smoky looking around Mt.Kynock and also there was a burn off on Tabletop Mountain as well. Hope we don’t have bushfires again this summer.
DeleteFriends are going up to the carnival soon and I am jealous. It looks wonderful. Cheers
ReplyDeleteBernie, it's a shame you can't join them as the weather is beautiful.
DeleteI had hoped to be up there for this. I am determined that once all this Covid palarva is over, I will be up there for the Carnival.
ReplyDeleteIt is always a lovely time of the year. Hope you can make it next year. 🌹🥀🌺🌻🌼
DeleteEnjoy September and all the flowers. Last time we were there for the flowers was 2017. Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteWe just checked out Laurel Bank Park which was beautiful as usual and was very busy.
