A bit behind

Well, the start of 2023 has been a tad disappointing as I finally succumbed to COVID at the end of December and spent the first week of the new year in bed. At first I thought I had a bad flu and it didn't enter my mind that I had the virus until I lost my sense of taste and smell a few days later and thought I had better do  a test and sure enough I was positive.

Anyway I am on the mend after seeing the doctor to ask how long it would take to recover and she said it would take at least six weeks and my sense of taste and smell would come back in a few weeks which will be nice.

Unfortunately I gave the virus to my hubby so our garden has been sadly neglected and it has become very dry lately as we have missed the deluge of rain that has fallen up north. However, I took a few photos of what is growing so that I can have a record for future reference.

An assortment of petunias is doing well and always make a nice show near the front gate.

A friend gave us several punnets of tomatoes and now we have a tomato glut for the first time so I am searching for some quick and easy recipes on Pinterest to preserve them.

I bought a couple of little bullhorn capsicums from the health food shop and saved the seeds which I planted so it looks like we will have a glut of capsicums down the track too.

The beans I have planted have been eaten by the wildlife but the ones hubby bought from Green Harvest are all doing well planted on old screen doors left over from our renovations.

The chrysanthums are flowering once again and I guess will flower again before Mother's Day.

It is chilli time and the Bird's Eye chillies are making an appearance. They are too hot for me though.

This pelargonium is quite pretty and was a gift from a friend in the Geranium Club.

The hollyhocks are on the way out and this year I am going to let the seeds drop and see if they come up again later on in the year. Someone who grew them in South Australia told me the other day he used to do that when he lived there so I will experiment and see how that works for us.

I am a tad behind with planning for the year seeing as I spent the first week of 2023 in bed but hopefully things will improve as the days go on. I hope that you are all fit and healthy and looking forward to what the year will bring. We are already having plenty of drama here so need a lot of prayer.

Have a great week!

  1. Everything looks so vibrant and healthy in your garden. I was hoping in capsicums this year but the blackbirds dug up the seedlings. I have only had hollyhocks flower once a couple of years ago and and I left the seeds to drop. This year I am seeing young hollyhock plants in the cottage garden, perhaps flowers next year. That would be nice.

    1. Yes I am keen to see what happens with the hollyhocks after letting the seed drop. Nothing like experimenting ๐Ÿค”

  3. Ah. Nothing like a bit of gardening therapy. I love watching other people's gardens grow too! Lovely pictures and efforts.
