Everything I Need to Know I Learned From a Little Golden Book is a really lovely little book written by Diane Muldrow who is the author of several Little Golden Books for children and is the editorial director at Golden Books/Random House.
There is lots of good advice in the book like...'Give in to a good cry. You'll feel better afterward!'
'Sing even if you can't hold a tune'.
'Turn off the TV from time to time...and crack open a book!'
'Let your children know you love them'. That is a very important piece of advice.
I had a feeling that I had kept one of my children's Little Golden Books and had a search and found A Treasury of Little Golden Books which was second-hand when it came into our household over thirty years ago. It is well worn and even has the scribble inside from the original owner. :-)
I can remember reading the stories in this book to my children at bedtime and I especially loved the illustrations by Eloise Wilkin. Check out these illustrations. Aren't they gorgeous? I love seeing the Little Golden Books in the shops and hope that parents are continuing to buy them to read to their children. They bring back so many happy memories of the days when my children were little.
Now however....adults can have their own Little Golden Books! Diane Muldrow has also written Everything I Need to Know About Christmas I Learned From a Little Golden Book. Soon to be released is Everything I Need to Know About Love I Learned From a Little Golden Book.
Do you have some happy memories of Little Golden Books ? What was your favourite? My Goodnight Book was one that I loved reading to my children. I was probably hoping it would make them sleepy and nod off. :-) Which reminds me....I might buy some for my granddaughters before heading off to Mt.Isa. I might need to read them to sleep too!
Little Toot the Tugboat was my favourite. Gosh i bet that little book you found brought a tear to your eye. Probably seems like yesterday.

That was unusual, Barbara. I don't think I have come across that book. There is usually one particular book that children never seem to tire of, isn't there?

ReplyDeleteOh cool, I have saved the 'Little Golden Books' that were still readable from my kids collection for the grandkids and I still have 'The Pokey little Puppy' from my own childhood library! Thanks for the info, I think I need one of these!

ReplyDeleteI once saw a couple who carefully de-constructed golden books and added lovely blank parchment pages in between the original pages to make a golden book journal. They bound it on a spiral binder that you could add pages to - a great idea I thought.
