A nice surprise in the mail

Just before Easter I received a parcel containing some lovely swap items. My swap partner had been unwell at the time of the swap a few months ago so I was in no hurry for her to finish her items until she felt she was on top of things once again.

As we become more reliant on technology to communicate by email etc. it is nice to receive something sent by snail mail.

I love surprises and had no idea what was in the box apart from the fact that it would be something lavender or purple which was the colour theme for that particular swap. It was beautifully wrapped in lavender paper...

...and inside was a lovely handmade fabric box containing two very soft knitted facecloths and a tub of coconut oil and sugar body scrub which smelled wonderful.

I just love seeing what others knit and crochet and the yarn which is from Bendigo Woollen Mills is available in some really gorgeous colours and comes in large 200g balls. I think the lavender was the same cotton as my last swap partner made her Tunisian Crochet facecloths out of for our recent dishcloth, handtowel or apron swap.  It is so soft to the touch. Of course these are usually made as dishcloths but they are too nice to use as such in my mind. I just like looking at them and feeling them :-)

I had just received my Tunisian Crochet facecloths before our last Simple Living Toowoomba workshop so I took them along to show everybody and, as we discovered our co-ordinator Margy can do this type of crochet, we will probably have a workshop in May when we can all learn how to get started with it. This was my swap partner's first attempt at it and I think she did well as I have watched some YouTube instruction videos and it doesn't look like the easiest form of crochet to master. I have trouble just with basic crochet trying to keep the edges straight. LOL!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. It was very quiet here. When my parents were alive we would drive home every Easter, Christmas, Mother's and Father's Day etc. to spend the day with them. How life changes when you lose them!

We are almost in the second month of autumn but, apart from the nights cooling down, the days are still warm and mostly sunny with the occasional storm passing through and watering the garden. It is still extremely hot where my grandchildren live and, as I am flying up there in May, I do hope it cools down before then as this Nanna can't cope with the heat of the Outback. It should do though...I hope!

Have a great week everyone!

  1. Those washcloths looks so soft to touch. What a lovely package. It would be very sad to not have your parents around anymore. I couldn't imagine what it would be like but I know it is something I'll have to face one day. xx

  3. Both my mum and dad are now in aged care and I have been spending a lot of time with mum as she is struggling to adjust and suffering severe anxiety - hence not much blogging happening! I have given mum needles and a ball of cotton to knit a dishcloth, and she did start on it today so progress is being made.

    1. Hutchy, it must be hard to adjust to being in an aged care facility. It certainly isn't something to look forward to.

    1. Kathy, I used to make those boxes back in the 1980s and I know how tricky it can get trying to do the insides so my swap partner did a really good job even though she was worried that she had done a lousy job.
