Calendula Soap with Green Clay

Before I left to visit my grandchildren I wanted to make a batch of soap so that it could start curing while I was away. I had been infusing calendula petals in olive oil in the sun for a few weeks and that was ready to use. So firstly I strained the petals as I was going to add some freshly dried ones during the soapmaking process.

A very yellow goats milk soap!

As I mentioned in a previous post I made another batch of goats milk soap a few days ago and this time I used the calendula soap recipe from 2013 when I was experimenting (as usual) with trying to produce a yellow soap. I had noticed that a friend had made a batch with the colour I liked so she gave me the recipe and I was quite pleased with the result. The only problem is that it has Carotino oil in it or palm oil which is quite controversial in soap making circles from what I gather.

Calendula soap.

Well, I think this time I might have calendula soap. I infused some olive oil with calendula flowers and sat it out in the sun for six weeks.  I added the petals to the soap and the end result is .....interesting!

Calendula Soap? Well...not quite!

A few weeks ago I saw a photo of bright yellow soap on the Down to Earth Forum which caught my eye and I was interested to learn that calendula infused oil was one of the ingredients.
