Margy has made a bedspread out of hexagons so would have been very experienced at making them by the time she finished it.
Doesn't it look fabulous though and well worth the time and effort put into making it? The workshop will be held on the 18th April at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 23 Glenvale Road, Toowoomba (next to Maccas which is diagonally across the road from Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre) from 10-12 noon at a cost of $5.00. You can find more details below.
I was thinking the other day that I was interested in making hexagons back in the 1970s and sure enough found one of my old craft books that I kept just in case patchwork became popular again. I just love the little girl's vest in that old book.
I also came across the very creative Cintia's My Poppet site where she has a tutorial for a fabulous hexagon table runner and has kindly given me permission to use the photo of it to show you.
Isn't that runner inspiring? It is something I just might attempt as I don't think I am up to making a bedspread. I may not have that many years left. LOL!
As it is Easter Sunday this weekend which you might be making some homemade eggs for, I came across this Cacao Mousse Egg recipe this other day which you may be interested in making if you don't want a sugar-rich egg. Now that our children have grown up, we aren't really into egg giving mode and Easter is more about the spiritual significance for us anyway.
For those of you who live in our area who would like to come to one of our workshops in the next few months here are the details of the next three as you might like to print them out for future reference.

Have a safe Easter everyone especially if you are on the roads as they will be busy here in Australia and very wet in SE Queensland according to the weather forecast. I hope our Northern Hemisphere friends have a wonderful weekend as well.
I think sewing for the sake of creating a family heirloom/s is also important - it is about having something for future generations to remember us by too.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, Phil. A hexagon quilt would be lovely to hand down but I am not sure I would ever finish one off.
DeleteYou always have such great workshops going on. Love the hexagon blanket. It is on my 'to do' list. One day I just may get one started. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteKrystal, I like the look of that runner so might have a go at making...and finishing...that :-)
DeleteWhat appeals to me with the hexagons is you can use all scraps and remnants to make them...so sort of recycling, keeping a memorie of loved clothes and linens and economical all in one...the way patchwork was originally when it was using up every little bit to make something beautiful. It just makes sense to me. Then when you look at it each hexagon reminds you of a dress or where that bit came from. Oh the possibilities... Suffolk puffs are another I like in this way.
ReplyDeleteI really would love all your classes and meeting crafty people too.
I have MANY projects on the go... But there is room for one more! Have a lovely Easter Nanna Chel xxx
Annabel, they are great stash busters aren't they? I have a lot of UFOs as well but, as you say, there is always room for one more. LOL! Have a wonderful Easter.
DeleteNanna Chel,
ReplyDeleteThe new workshops sound great. Not that I need another craft project but I'm sure I'll be able to manage the hexie one. Have a happy Easter to you and yours.
-Shiralee.
Chel, The runner looks about my level too I think. I can remember the Golden Hands magazines, my Mum had folders of them! She gave them to the library at their retirement village when they moved in so they're lost to me. Looking forward to all the workshops.
