As our winter vegetables are all ready at once I thought I would ferment some of the cabbages with carrots, kale and a few other bits and pieces...
...so 4 carrots, one small red cabbage and 1/2 sugarloaf cabbage, plus kale when squeezed and pummeled after the addition of salt...
...ends up filling just 3/4 of a large Moccona coffee jar and is now bubbling away in the kitchen. One day I will actually watch the online photography course I enrolled in and might find out how to take photos of glass without it reflecting. One day....
Also brewing in the kitchen but not near the fermenting veggies (of course) is water kefir and this lot is ready for the fridge.
Thankfully I remembered the Nasturtium Vinegar with Rosemary and Peppercorns which I had put away in a dark cupboard until ready so I strained it before putting it into a nice vinegar bottle to use with salad dressing. Barb from Barpets Patch was wondering if it would hold its colour and it has.
More Bromeliads are flowering...
as are some of the succulents...
The freesias are looking beautiful...
...and always herald the warmer weather...
...and our mum's old azalea plant is still looking stunning after all these years.
The world around us might be going crazy but there is always peace and solace to be found just walking around the garden and taking in the sometimes breathtaking beauty that is to be found there.
Freesias are my favourite flower. I can remember sitting surrounded by them as a tiny child on our front lawn.

Tania we had a couple of warm nights but it raining now so we are back to our cooler weather. It won't be long though before the heat sets in once again.

as usual Nanna Chel your garden flowers are putting on a show! perhaps you can give us a few tips on how to have colour all through the year (as well as the flowers)?

Selina,we don't water the flowers very much and concentrate on the veggies. The CEO bought this place before we married and he has put heaps and heaps of manure into the soil over 38 or so years. It is red soil here so is great for growing plants which I guess is why we have the Carnival of Flowers each year. Also over that time he has put in probably hundreds of bulbs which have been given to him and they come up every year without any TLC from us.

DeleteLove, love, love freesias - such a glorious smell. A vase full near an open window inside is just divine as it wafts through the house. Wish I had some.
