I won a Fitbit!

A friend and I go to a restorative stretching class for over 55s which is part of our Regional Council's CHANGE Project and today there was a launch event held in our city library so we thought we would go along and see what happens....and I ended up winning a Health and Fitness Pack worth $150 which includes a Fitbit!

The CHANGE Project (Healthy Living Program) won the Parks and Leisure Australia 2015 Awards of Excellence which is a feather in the cap for our council.

Besides the gym class I have also attended one of the Seed to Feed Workshops run by a well known local horticulturist, Brian Sams, who is a very entertaining presenter who had us digging around in the soil to find the pH. He has some very informative factsheets on his website Wattlebrae Horticultural Services.

When I unpacked my prize I found there were 3 juggling balls which should provide a lot of entertainment for the menfolk as they watch me try to work out what to do with them.

A weight jump rope which looks like it has 125g of weight in each handle which hopefully I won't fracture my femur on.

3 stretch bands which I think I know how to use as we do use one at our gym class and a blue spiky ball which I am not too sure about. Would it be one of those balls you put under your foot and roll it around?

A $30 iTunes card and last but not least a Fitbit! I just need to read the instructions and find out how they work and I have always wondered whether they were worth buying. All of this came in a basket which I can reuse as a gift basket for one of my unsuspecting friends who is probably reading this blog post :-) To say I was surprised with winning this pack is an understatement! So, many thanks to our Council for the prize and for the good work they are doing with trying to help us all become more fit and healthy.

Before the Carnival of Flowers finished yesterday we paid a quick visit to the last of the gardens we wanted to check out. There are two neighbours who have smallish gardens compared to the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion gardens but they are two of my favourites as they are so quirky. Don't you love this little lady in pink....

...and her friend out the front wearing the sunnies and who is sporting a little pony tail this year....or is it called a topknot or something like that? I should ask my granddaughters.

This beautiful wheelbarrow garden featured on the front lawn of one of these two gardens and I couldn't resist taking a photo. Isn't it just so colourful and absolutely stunning?

So that's the end of the Carnival for this year. Apart from a couple of rainy days there was fine and sunny weather and I am sure that all those who visited were very pleased with every garden they visited not to mention the quilt show, the spinning and weaving expo, the teapot extravaganza and the list goes on.

Now I need to find the Fitbit instructions and work out how this new little bit of technology works. If I can't get it to work I have a couple of friends who like a technology challenge :-)

  1. Lucky you - my girls all got fitbots for last Christmas. We got them at a sale for 50% off as they were a discontinued colour. A bit like a clever, snazzed up pedometer I think.

  2. Hmmmm.....fitbits not fitbots. Ha! Just spied my typo as it dissappeared into the 'publish' ether.

  4. Harry has a Fitbit and really likes it! In fact, now his sister and brother have them, so they're a bit competitive, which is a good thing.

    1. Barb, I didn't see the TV crew at the launch and thankfully they didn't show me receiving the fitness pack. I did see a couple of views taken from behind us so that was alright :-)

  7. What a lovely prize, and congratulations for winning. My husband is looking to get his third fitbit. The second one was replaced under warranty, and I'm not sure if his third one will be covered under warranty too. He just uses it all the time. It even comes to bed with us, so he can monitor how much rest he's getting.

While I'm personally anti-tech when it comes to fitness for myself, it seems to work as a motivator for him. Because as he said, it creates a target and he's better at aiming at targets, than not. Without the target he loses interest. So whatever works at keeping you fit. :)

    1. Chris, I have a pedometer I can clip onto my waistband to count the number of steps I take a day but I have been really slack with doing that lately so hopefully the Fitbit will motivate me...once I get it working.

  8. You are going to love your Fitbit. It helps me keep moving and the sleep log has been invaluable and I hope that it will give me some aid with insomnia.

Do you still belong to that site where we met? I have accumulated a nice bundle of clothing patterns for a woman there, and I cannot remember how to contact her.

    1. J, I really don't like wearing anything on my wrist so am not sure if I will be able to wear it to bed but I would like to know how much sleep I actually do have as I seem to wake up an awful lot at night.
