Well, what a summer it has been here in Queensland with heavy rain, floods and a cyclone. Thankfully we have been spared any damage unlike many other regions where houses have been demolished by wild storms. Late one afternoon I could see something strange through the windows and when I went outside the sunset was just beautiful.

Getting fit at home
Are you fit? I certainly am not anymore. I used to walk around the block quite frequently but at the beginning of this year it was much too hot, then I had the skin cancer problems on my face, then I got the flu, then it was magpie mating season and so on. My US readers may not realise that here in Australia the magpies have a tendency to swoop on anyone who approaches the tree their nest is in and they can be quite frightening. A friend and I were going to an exercise class for oldies seniors last year but then she got a bung knee so we stopped going and now it is time to get motivated once again which is easier said than done.

I won a Fitbit!
A friend and I go to a restorative stretching class for over 55s which is part of our Regional Council's CHANGE Project and today there was a launch event held in our city library so we thought we would go along and see what happens....and I ended up winning a Health and Fitness Pack worth $150 which includes a Fitbit!

Are YOU fit?
I really haven't been exercising very much lately due to various aches and pains and probably lack of motivation as well but I saw the end of Dr.Michael Mosley's The Truth about Exercise last night which I had seen before and was very impressed with, so I put the pedometer on today and am trying to get back my exercise momentum. As I am sure you all know, we need to walk at least 10,000 steps a day to be relatively fit and this is something that I have not been doing lately and am certainly noticing more stiffness. So I was wondering how fit my readers are or am I the only one who has been remiss in this area?

Strong Women Stay Young Programme
A while back when we were discussing how to keep fit, a friend asked if I had heard of the book 'Strong Women Stay Young' and as I hadn't she lent me her copy. It is a very interesting book about the benefits of strength training.

How fit and healthy are YOU?
If you live in Queensland you would have seen the Queensland Health ads on TV asking us to take the Health and Fitness Age Challenge.

Do YOU take 10,000 steps each day?
Have you heard about the 10,000 steps challenge? It is all about encouraging people to sit less and move more in order to facilitate better health and well-being. Steps can be counted by strapping a pedometer to the waistband in order to monitor the number of steps that are taken in a day.
