Chook Farm
I have a little 'chook farm' going here at the moment. Well, not real chooks but chook pincushions which are quick and easy to make for most people. Not so quick for me as I take forever to finish anything off but for anyone who has a sewing room and doesn't have to set up the sewing machine every time they want to sew something it wouldn't take long at all. Plus it helps if you can just leave what you are sewing on the table for the next session but alas, that is not the case here.

Farewell Sally!
Some of my readers who have been reading this blog for a few months or so would have heard about Sally the chook whose antics have entertained me since she came to live here just after Christmas last year. She was at the top of the pecking order in her previous home and upset my friend so much that she asked us to take her as she didn't have room to separate her from the other chooks. Of course when she arrived here she wasn't taken to kindly by our chooks who started pecking her in turn so we had to remove her from the others and she became my little pet in a way.

Sally ~ Layer of alien eggs
I don't know a lot about chooks but find our 'Sally Girl', as we call her, to be quite a fascinating character. Normally she is happy to get into her cage around 5pm each evening and then I go inside to cook dinner. However during the week she absolutely refused to go to bed so I left her for a while while I got the dinner on and went outside when it was almost dark to see where she was. I couldn't find her for a while and then I found her on top of the compost heap and when she saw me she very happily ran into her cage and settled down for the night or whatever that is in chook talk. I noticed though that she had just laid an egg and when I took it inside and had a look at it I saw that it was the weirdest egg I had ever seen....hence the description of an alien egg!

Silly Sally Spots a Scary Stranger
This is another little story for my grandchildren. The girls are on school holidays so my seven year old granddaughter can read this to her younger sister and baby brother. She tells me she has written a book so I look forward to reading it when I visit in a few weeks time.

Would you like to learn more about chooks?
We have had a few chooks on and off for a number of years and they were always looked after by the CEO before I retired from the paid workforce but I have been keen on learning more about them myself for some time and when I read on Eight Acres that Liz was working on an eBook about chicken tractors I eagerly waited for her to finish it so that I could buy it.

A Farmers' Market App and Veggie Bags
Last weekend we attended the relatively new Farmers' Market held in the Toowoomba Showgrounds. We were there fairly early...about 7.30am...and there were already hundreds of cars parked or arriving. It was lovely to wander about and talk to the various producers and, of course, we came home with bags of produce and a much lighter wallet and purse.

Some great simple gardening ideas
I am sure that most Aussies who are keen on gardening watch Gardening Australia each week. On the 22nd August there was a segment called Great Ideas in which Costa visited Nevin Sweeney who shared some of his innovative but simple ideas. I am going to try a couple of them and started off with Nifty Ned's Propagation Thingamabob.
