Growing a Dragonfruit

I know a lot of my readers have been following the progress of our one and only Dragonfruit and a few days ago I finally picked it. Dragonfruit is a tropical fruit native to Southern Mexico and Central America and, as we live in a supposedly cool temperate region, I really didn't think we would ever see fruit on our plant. However, perhaps it enjoyed our unusually hot summer temperatures recently and I was quite intrigued as I followed its progress over the weeks since the beginning of February.

Goat's Milk Soap with a swirl

I have been meaning to write this post for about a week but the cyclone and its aftermath have been occupying my thoughts. I had some goat's milk soap in the freezer which needed to be used up and I also have some ultramarine liquid colour in my stash which I bought ages ago and which I want to get rid of as I want to use natural colours as much as possible so thought I would try and do a swirl with layers of uncoloured soap mixture, light blue and light pink which was to be coloured with pink clay.

'Bye 'Bye TC Debbie

I am sure most Queenslanders would like to see the end of ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie. She made her presence felt in North Queensland at the beginning of the week and since turning into a rain depression has headed south leaving behind flooding and general mayhem.

Bits and Pieces

As my 'upgrading' to Windows 10 and subsequent 'downgrading' to Windows 7...that really should be the other way around and it was no 'upgrade' that's for sure...our network settings have been out of plumb and currently we have times of the day when the internet cuts out on the computer after five minutes or so. I have been waiting until the NBN arrives which was supposed to happen last September but is now going to happen in April so that I can pay for the IT guy to come around and fix everything up. My sister had terrible trouble with the NBN so I am hoping it won't be so bad here. She doesn't even have the internet! So perhaps the problem will be fixed next month. It does make it difficult to write a blog post though.

I think we have a Dragonfruit

I was walking around the front garden the other day looking for the egg that Hildegarde the chook lays amongst the Agapanthus most days and while I was there admiring what is left of said front garden after Hildegarde has single handedly double leggedly wrecked, I came across what I used to think was a Dragonfruit plant but as it had never fruited I decided it must just be a cactus as the CEO is always putting cuttings in the ground around the place and then forgets what they are.
