Out of kilter

Does anyone use the expression 'Out of kilter' any more? I remember my parents saying that quite regularly many years ago during conversations. I think that describes how I feel at the moment. Last week's terrible heatwave meant that each day was spent just finding ways to survive the heat and everything else got put on hold. It was too hot to cook sourdough, too hot to put the dehydrator on, too hot to cook a meal in our Western facing kitchen and so on.

Now that it has cooled down dramatically I find that I am now out of kilter and totally unmotivated to get done what needs to be done. Have you ever felt that way. If you look closely at the above photo you can see that that cockatoo is also out of kilter. Ha ha! As I mentioned in my last post one of The Home Maker Forum members had introduced us to the greatest time waster you could imagine...even a bigger time waster than Pinterest and that is the Deep Dream Generator which turns ordinary photos into sometimes impressive works of art and other time quite weird ones like in the cockatoo photo.

Of course I had to experiment to see what I could come up with and this is a photo of my granddaughter taken years ago with peacocks around her to the right. I like this one.

Another photo taken in the same photo shoot by a young girl who was doing some prac for her photography subject. The girls were actually looking out onto a lake so it is interesting how the program inserts buildings etc. You never quite know how a photo is going to turn out.

Then there is a Mount Isa sunset...

...an orange rose in my daughter's garden...

...the beautiful gardens in Queens Park Toowoomba taken during the Carnival of Flowers a few years back. By the way don't forget the Carnival is being held from the 21-30 September this year if you plan to visit during that time.

The sunflowers in Queens Park I showed you in the post A Very Sunny Queens Park

I know this type of program is not for everyone but I find it fascinating and try not to waste too much time with it. Well maybe a little. As I said it has really cooled down so there are curtains waiting to sew, sourdough to make, dead bananas to be rescued in banana bread...perhaps sourdough banana bread, floors to vacuum (if I can remove the menfolk from the premises for 1/2 hour), exercise to do in the lounge room with Leslie Sansone plus a visit to the Cobb and Co Museum to see the Da Vinci Machines.

I can't blame the heat anymore for not getting motivated. I hope the heat is over for all my Aussie readers. We have had enough of summer here in Australia I think and those in the Northern Hemisphere need some nice warm weather to thaw out so it is their turn to 'enjoy' the heat.

So no more time wasting. Well perhaps just one more peek at the Deep Dream Generator before I cook some sourdough. LOL!

  1. Chel I know what you mean by the heat sapping all the energy out of you. Today I felt was going nowhere. I got myself outside and went through the seedbox. Seed beds were prepared and seed planted during a rain shower. I have only just started to play with the Deep Dream Generator. I have my first photo waiting in a queue. Should be a bit of fun to see how it turns out.

    1. Jane, it won't be long before you will be addicted to Deep Dream Generator. LOL! I hope it cools down up there like it has here.

  2. Chel those photos look so amazing, and I'm not even going to think about getting the program because I know myself too well. Nothing would get done cos I'd be playing with it all day...lol Thanks for showing us though so that I can now see that such things exist. The hot days leave me feeling zapped of energy too and my poor garden is looking so neglected after no maintenance work has been done for weeks. Just keeping things alive and hours of hand watering and moving sprinklers/dripping hoses is enough. We had a couple of cool days recently and I got lots done, ran around with a wheelbarrow and tools, like a mad woman. Gosh I slept well afterwards though. Hopefully your kilter will come back in soon. ;-)

    1. Sally, the Deep Dream Generator is just a website and is easy to use. You should give it a try. Of course you won't get addicted. LOL! I think my kilter will return now that the weather has cooled down.

  3. Yes I'm very much out of kilter with the heat among other things. Hopefully the worst is behind us though. I love the rose picture but then I'm a push over for roses anyway!

    1. Barb, you would be enjoying the cooler day today. Hopefully it stays that way for a while. The roses come out looking really nice in the Deep Dream Generator.

  4. Yes I remember and still use many of the old sayings. And I feel I'm out of kilter most days. Come 4 pm my pain sets in big time and the exhaustion. I am very blessed our rental home has a air conditioner in the kitchen. This last week has been pleasant and came down to my daughters today very humid in Adelaide. The heat just sucks all life from some people. I had many days sitting out watching the children in the pool and doing knitting or then coming inside and just collapsing. Hope you find motivation and energy soon Chel

It would be lovey to attend the get-together. I'm spending a week with family so nice to see the grandchildren. Hope you and the other ladies had fun at the craft show.

  5. Hehee Chel, I can see that you are not addicted to Deep Dream Generator. Not at all. LOL
I tried it a couple of times, but decided to stay away for a while. May be I'll try again this weekend. :)

  6. Oh yes, heat lethargy here too, just watching nice cold Olympics and knitting until the cooler day yesterday, then sourdough baking and a batch of soap...which has turned out the most beautiful shade of pale green ? ? ? Only thing different to normal was cheap Lemongrass fragrance oil. I will be watching to see if the colour changes or if the fragrance fades.
Coffee at Cobb &Co ? Grass wet, mowing can wait

    1. Margaret I forgot to mention today that I bought some olive oil from ALDI and it was very green. I won't buy that brand again.

  7. Hmmm...think I will stay well clear of the Deep Dream Generator, I have enough trouble staying on track sometimes. Glad for this cooler, rainy weather we're having. Think the veggie patch might get a good clear out on the weekend! Meg:)

    1. Meg, it has been quite damp here which is nice. Just some drizzle now and again. Much better than it was last week.

  8. The weather has turned well, again. Thank heavens! All this light rain, has brought a lovely flush of green to everything. It's nice to see the various horses and cattle, casually grazing once more, on the drive to school. And I don't have to worry about the kids dehydrating, at school either. So I really do hope we don't see any more heat-waves, for what little time remains of summer. :)

    1. Chris, I too hope that is the end of the heatwaves. There is still time for a few cyclones to start up but hopefully none like Debbie will come through.

  9. We say out of kilter. It is a bad feeling! We also are having draining awful weather. It messes up everything including sleep... so EVERYTHING is out of kilter!

  10. Nanna Chel,
I think the weather is definitely out of kilter. So glad the hot weather is over but not sure about all this rain, it's messing with my walking routine; think I might have to go with your exercise video's instead. Mind you I prefer the rain to the heat, yuck.

    1. Yes I prefer the rain too, Shiralee although it is more drizzle than anything, isn't it. Very foggy again today.

  11. It's been very hot here too Chel, and my brain turned to mush and not very much done. It's cooler now as it's been raining heavily for a few days, so I still can't get into the garden, but at least I can sew comfortably. I love the look of the Deep Dream Generator, I noticed the photo on your side bar right away. Imagine the wonderful art quilts you could make! Hope your kilter rights itself soon x

    1. I hope you don't get any flooding, Nanette. It seems to be bucketing down closer to the coast. A relief from the heat though.

    2. No flooding Chel, a lot of rain falling but not enough to fill the river....doesn't stop me checking how it all through the night though :(
