Thank you!

I just wanted to thank everyone for their care and concern after my recent skin cancer surgery. I was pleased to hear that the second lot of surgery was successful and the doctor got the invasive cancer out completely. That was just as well as I didn't know how I could undergo another lot of surgery as I have developed a very painful infection which has kept me laying low for a number of days.

I haven't felt well enough to write any blog posts but just wanted to try and stay upright for long enough to thank everybody. I am on antibiotics and the doctor said there should be an improvement in the next 24 hours. She was quite concerned as it isn't an infection of the wound which is common if the doctors have to go in through the same incision again so she is not sure what is causing it and has taken a swab but the results won't be back for 3 or 4 days.

Cheeky Lynda wanted a photo of my black eye but I can't help with that this time round as it is still red and very swollen as you can tell from the selfie I took. I am getting used to taking selfies regularly to see if there is any improvement as there is nothing else I can do as I can't  concentrate on anything so reading or knitting is out of the question. You can't see it in the photo but under my nose are lots of painful spots which the doctor thought looked like shingles but she said they don't normally appear there. So time will tell when the tests come back. Meantime it's back to bed for me.

Sorry I haven't been visiting my usual blogs and commenting as I haven't felt up to it but hopefully things will get back to normal soon. That would be nice as three days of living on boiled eggs and toast is getting a tad boring but I can't eat much because my mouth is swollen.

At least the pathology tests were good so that is the main thing, don't you think? Thanks for your concern. It means a lot.

  6. It's amazing how the body can heal, after such extensive injury. We're fortunate that is the case. :) I'm glad the tests and surgery were successful outcomes. I was hoping it would be the case. Rest up and heal now. Enjoy your time not having to rush, your body needs it.

  7. Nana Chel you really are going to have to stop getting into bar brawls, Surely by your age and stage in life you would know this.
I do hope that the antibiotics have kicked in and that you are getting some relief. Big hugs

  8. Chel, I didn't realise you had a complication. I hope you are feeling more recovered from the surgery soon and the doctor discovers what the "shingles" like thing is and can treat it successfully. Glad to hear about the pathology results though. Could anyone borrow you some talking books to while away your time?

    1. Robyn, I must say it does look like shingles. I thought of the 'talking books' but I feel too irritable to concentrate on them and prefer the quiet...boring and all as it is. At least I can sit up a bit today and use the iPad.

  10. Oh dear, Chel that looks very uncomfortable.....ask me how I know ! ! I will send you a pick on my phone as my email has stopped working.
Could you try some milkshakes or smoothies to give you some variety and not hurt your mouth.
I would definitely take some painkillers to let you knit or read.

  11. Chel dear, I'm feeling sorry for you, and hoping that with each day there is improvement. The infection is just what you didn't need, and hope they get to the bottom of that quickly. Very frustrating for you. We will need a photo of you again when all this is over, because I wouldn't like to think of you forever as looking like this pic of you. ;) XX

  15. I read here all the time and wonder how I missed the whole cancer thing! I did read the bit about the bit on your nose, but totally did not get that it was so serious.

So. Whew. Glad all is well. Gosh.

    1. The results from the first surgery weren't good, Juds. So the doc had to go back in and dig deeper to take out more. I means how deep can you go in a nose. Thankfully she dug deep enough.

  17. Dear Nanna Chel, I really hope you are improving and feeling better. I had two recent infections. Until then I was clueless that they could be so painful. I had no idea. My second one really knocked me about. It has cleared up after lots of antibiotics but I still get pain as soon as I over do it. So I really relate and know about not being able to do anything or concentrate. You can only rest and let the antibiotics work and Im sure rest helps that plus the healing. I am glad you got the all clear, now to get over this hurdle! I have another lady starting up some sourdough too so Gertrude is going global now as this lady is in New Zealand, with lots of love, Annabel.xxx

    1. Thanks Annabel. I was thinking about you and those spider bites. That is a terrible thing to happen. The antibiotics finish tomorrow so I will see what happens after that. Thankfully the results of the swap will be in tomorrow so we can find out what the mystery infection is. Gertrude will be getting giddy with all that high flying :-)

    1. It is not the typical type of shingles, Madge. It doesn't seem to be following a nerve. It's horrible just the same and I will be glad when it is gone.
