A Walk in the Park

When I was visiting our local Farmers' Market a week or so ago I crossed the road to Queens Park to see what the gardens were looking like. This park is one of Toowoomba's most popular as it is an easy walk from the CBD and attracts visitors year round.

It is always lovely to see the changing colours of the leaves during Autumn.

They are always stunning to have in the background for photo enthusiasts.

However, there was absolutely nothing  planted in the gardens....

...as they are obviously being prepared for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers...

...which this year will run for the whole month of September instead of ten days unless there is a COVID outbreak I guess.

By September the gardens will look something like this...

...or this!

There aren't many roses in this park unlike the Queensland State Rose Garden in Newtown Park...

...and I was quite pleased to see that some of the rose bushes didn't look any better than mine do at the moment. I did however spot a couple of roses that I don't have not that I am tempted to buy any more as I really am not that good at growing roses. I do like looking at them though. If you love roses and are in our region do pop into the Queensland State Rose Garden before the pruning is done in a couple of months as they have a great variety there. They aren't flowering when the Carnival of Flowers is on unfortunately but there are plenty of other flowers elsewhere to see during that time.

Next Saturday, 8th May,  our Simple Living Toowoomba will be hosting a workshop on Zero Waste presented by Alice Carwardine which should be very informative. Numbers are restricted to 30 due to social distancing restrictions so do book in if you would like to come.

Have a great week everyone.

    1. Kathy, it will be interesting to see how the flowers look over the full month but the park gardeners are very experienced and I am sure the parks will look stunning for the whole month 🌺

    1. Good to see you back in Blogland, Gillian. I have neglected my blog somewhat over the last year or so. I think I have run out of things to say πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‡

  3. Whenever I'm in town, I check out the gardens to see what they're prepping, for the Carnival of Flowers. As I know they plan months in advance. I was driving down Mort Street, towards Hogg recently, and looked at the new roads they've put in. The trees they planted along the long stretch, are starting to mature. They're going to have another lovely, tree lined street, when they reach full maturity. The garden city, certainly loves it's tree avenues. Which I'm glad for. The best shade is under a tree. Are they tiger roses in your garden? I used to have those, until the drought took them out. They held on for many years though. They were very beautiful in bloom though, and smelled divine.

    1. Chris I haven't seen those trees. The roses were in Queens Park. I am not sure what the name of them is.

    2. It's the section of Mort street, from North to Hogg. The trees are just getting big enough to see they were deliberately planted. Not just on the retaining wall side, but the fence on the other side too. The road was so big when they first installed it, and the plants wee babies, I didn't realise they planted both sides of the street. Not until several years later, did they start showing the canopy to come.
