Looking for some cheeriness on a dismal day

As almost every day this week has begun or ended with fog and drizzle, I thought I would look for some cheeriness around the place. Actually I just discovered that 'cheeriness' is a word - if you can believe the results of a Google search. Anyway, back to the fog and drizzle .....

I took a walk outside and admired my new 'Welcome' sign

...wondered what I should plant in the gumboots

... said hello to the budgie (don't worry, it's not real)

...thought how pretty the camellia looked against the grey sky

...was glad I recycled my empty olive oil tin

...checked out how my new Brahmi plant was liking the rain

...took some photos of galangal for the DTE forum

...and dug some up

...as well as some turmeric for the freezer.

I felt a bit more cheery after all that.

These two little darlings always brighten up this Nanna's day whatever the weather!

How do you brighten up a dismal winter's day?

  1. Hello Nanna Chel. Delighted to have discovered your lovely blog. I'm over from Rhonda's Down to Earth blog.
We've been getting plenty of rain over here in Brisbane this week too. I get out and do a bit of weeding between the showers. Weeds just pop up out of the damp ground!

    1. Hi Jean, I checked out your blog and it is very interesting. You have a great vegie garden. I'm a bit of a novice where gardening is concerned but learn something new every day. Thanks for commenting. I really appreciate the feedback.

  2. Grey days are made for indoor things ... craft, reading, sitting by the fire dreaming, baking, or cooking [in that order!]. This morning we went into town and I came home with some petunia plants to give a little colour to what passes for a garden. [Other Half said we don't have onions, so can't have petunias!!]

    1. Shirley, it sounds like you will have to plant some onions as well as the petunias! LOL!I wish I had a fire to dream by too.

  3. I do like Shirley, though not in the same order and add a purring cat to the lap for the reading and dreaming :). Actually my cat likes to help with other things too, like garden supervising, no matter the weather!
IMHO I think that a nice draping thyme plant would set off your boots and it's small pointy leaves would add a nice contrast to the robust curvy leaved plant in the corner (whose name I can't remember atm - shame!).
    Cheers, Robyn xo

    1. Robyn, I read your reply on my Smartphone at lunchtime at work and thought you wrote 'curry' plant in the corner and when I got home I was going to ask hubby if he had planted a curry plant somewhere. LOL! I can't remember the name of the plant either but perhaps it is a begonia. Does that sound right?

    2. That sounds right. My DM had them in pots around the veranda and they were ridiculously easy to grow! She didn't dare plant them in the garden as they took over.

  4. Good afternoon Nanna Chel,

Thanks for joining my blog - months ago (!) - sorry I haven't said hello before now. Your site looks lovely, I'll enjoy keeping up to date with you too. Kind regards, Barb

    1. Welcome Barb. I saw that you mentioned living in the Scienic Rim on Rhonda's blog and was interested in finding out where exactly that area is as it is often mentioned on The Great South East on TV. Of course I did a Google search to find out...as you do! I hope you didn't have any damage in that storm the other night as the radar in your area had a lot of red and yellow in it.
