Vintage bunting from old lace curtain.

Have you ever replaced your lace curtains that had become worn out or torn and wished you could re-use the parts of the curtain that were still in good condition? Well, here is an idea! Make some lace bunting as everything 'vintage' is very popular at the moment and it is quick and easy to make.

Firstly, have a look at the patterns on your lace and see if there is one that would be a suitable size for the bunting that you prefer.

With this lace curtain the pattern at the top could be used and the ribbon or twine could be threaded through the turned over edge made for the curtain rod.

As there was also a smaller pattern at the bottom of the curtain which was more suited to the bunting size required then this pattern was chosen.

I lay some cardboard over the pattern and cut out a template so that each piece was the same size.

Then twine was threaded through the holes in the bottom edge of the lace although ribbon could be used instead depending on the desired effect.

This was fairly quick and certainly easy with no sewing required.

The bunting can be used inside or ..................

outside and is often used as part of the decorations for outdoor celebrations these days. We don't have any of those these days but many young people do so this is a cheap way to decorate for such an occasion. Of course you can cut the bunting to the size you want depending on whether you want to hang it from a tree or drape it over some of the outdoor furniture.

The credit for this idea must go to my 'always full of creative ideas' friend and colleague who brought the lace curtain to work so that we could use it in a display. :-) The bunting ended up looking very effective.

If you are into all things vintage, then check out the Sweet Stella website and her Facebook page which are just absolutely inspiring. You don't have to join Facebook to view the photos. This lady is a local who decorates venues for parties and she is extremely creative as you can see by the amazing photos. I am sure you will find plenty of ideas there if you are planning a party. Enjoy!

    1. I must admit it does look nice outside. I did feel like a bit of a fool taking photos of the bunting though. I was hoping the neighbours couldn't see me. :-)

  2. Genius! I might whip some up for the school craft stall, if I can put down my crochet hook.

    1. Sue, it is hard to cut into some fabrics isn't it? I have two lots of fabric with vintage designs on them and have been a bit tentative about cutting them in case I waste the precious fabric.
