Garden Show-Offs!

Do you have flowers growing in your garden that just seem to say 'LOOK AT ME'? While our front garden currently doesn't have the mass of flowers that will appear in late winter and early spring, there are nevertheless some beautiful flowers taking pride of place and providing a great show for anyone passing by.

Now, the 'proper' name for these flowers apparently is Amaryllis Belladonna but most gardeners would know it as another name which I am not going to type in case some search engine picks it up and I am sure you would understand why. :-) Then again, I don't really know how search engines actually work so perhaps there wouldn't be a problem but I have been getting some unwanted spam lately so don't want to take any chances of attracting more.
Anyway, back to the flowers. A few months ago my husband covered the front garden with sugar cane mulch and later discovered that some of the bulbs under the mulch were rotting so he dug them up and put them in a pile elsewhere, no doubt intending to sort through them when he had time to see which ones needed to be thrown out.
Well, bulbs wait for no man and we noticed in the last few days that they were shooting and one had already flowered so guess whose job it is to plant the rest of them ASAP?

They are quite beautiful even though the flowers don't last long. They remind me of people in a way as some people can be showy and be the focus of attention in a room whereas....

....others can be quietly beautiful in the nicest way...

... and are always there in the background...

...making sure everything is running smoothly...

...and hardly anybody notices...and that's just the way they like it!
Enjoy your day and I hope you are able to squeeze in some time to appreciate the beauty in your garden and relax.

  1. Hi Nanna Chel, Those lillies are just so pretty! I had to google for their common name and I see now what you meant! LOL. Just wish it would rain......

  2. Yes Barb it is dry again since those storms weeks ago. At least we aren't having the heatwave like down south. It's raining in the Outback so there is hope for us yet. :-)

  3. They are beautiful. Thanks for sharing. It's hot again out here in South Africa, but for now I'm happy to dry off a bit. Was starting to feel soggy. I have morning glories that are bringing my family a lot of enjoyment.

    1. That is great to get some rain, Damaria. It is very dry again here. The morning glories must be pretty!

  4. Hi Nanna Chel, I've seen your front garden it's pretty for sure!
We have dragon fruit flowers blooming in our backyard and they are definitely the 'look at me' show types. If you know them you know you'll have to see them at night. They're really something. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Shiralee, I haven't seen dragon fruit flowers. I'll have to ask Mr.Google what they look like. I'm looking forward to our Simple Living group starting up again after Easter.

  5. So lucky to have all those beautiful flowers. I'm sure it's a lot of work and you certainly have reaped the benefits. The possums eat any flowers we try to grow.

  6. Zena, I didn't realise they ate flowers. I think we have at least three possums camping out in the shed. It gets really hot in there in summer as it has a tin roof so I don't know how they cope with the heat.
