Hexagon Paper Piecing Workshop ~ Simple Living Toowoomba

We have had a couple of really great workshops already this year which were very well attended and have another one coming up on the 18th April. Our co-ordinator, Margy, will be presenting a workshop on hexagon paper piecing ~ patchwork, applique and quilting.

Margy has made a bedspread out of hexagons so would have been very experienced at making them by the time she finished it. 

Doesn't it look fabulous though and well worth the time and effort put into making it? The workshop will be held on the 18th April at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 23 Glenvale Road, Toowoomba (next to Maccas which is diagonally across the road from Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre) from 10-12 noon at a cost of $5.00. I was thinking the other day that I was interested in making hexagons back in the 1970s and sure enough found one of my old craft books that I kept just in case patchwork became popular again.  I just love the little girl's vest in that old book.

I also came across the very creative Cintia's My Poppet site where she has a tutorial for a fabulous hexagon table runner and has kindly given me permission to use the photo of it to show you.

Isn't that runner inspiring? It is something I just might attempt as I don't think I am up to making a bedspread. I may not have that many years left. LOL!

As it is Easter Sunday this weekend which you might be making some homemade eggs for, I came across this Cacao Mousse Egg recipe this other day which you may be interested in making if you don't want a sugar-rich egg. Now that our children have grown up, we aren't really into egg giving mode and Easter is more about the spiritual significance for us anyway.

Hexagon paper piecing - patchwork, applique and quilting

Date: 18 April
Time: 10-12 noon
Cost: $5
Where: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 23 Glenvale Road
Requirements: At least 7 pieces of scrap material approximately 10x10cm (you can bring more), needle, scissors and thread. The scraps can be from the same material or a variety of colours. You also may like to bring along a tea towel that you can applique your hexagons on to.

Gluten Free, Dairy Free Cooking Information and Demonstration

Date: 23 May
Time: 10-12 noon
Cost: $5

Janelle will take you through some basic information about gluten, coeliac disease, and label reading; have a chat about ingredients, foods to avoid, and how to cook gluten free and dairy free on a budget; as well as give tips that will help children and adults live gluten free. She will also demonstrate how to cook with some of her favourite gluten free and dairy free ingredients, including quinoa and polenta.

Organic Gardening

A horticulturist from Bunnings will be coming to give a presentation about organic gardening. If you have any particular questions that you would like answered please send them to me on nannachel@gmail.com. I will collate them and pass them on to the presenter before the workshop.
