I rang today for the results as they were supposed to be back yesterday and I hadn't heard anything. Apparently there is no bacteria so the suggestion was that it was a virus or a reaction to an insect bite. I am going with the insect bite as I had asked my son the day before the last lot of surgery if I had a red spot under my eye as I felt like I had just been bitten by something as it was stinging.
The strange thing is that we were at a shopping centre at the time and I had just walked into Coles supermarket. I mean...how many biting insects are there in Coles?
So I feel like it is all a bit 'up in the air' still as I am still not 100% but the rash is healing up so that is something positive and I am grateful for that. I will be pleased when I am firing on all fours once again as the place is looking like a jungle outside and is not much chop inside either. LOL!
To top off a really irritating day I had to take my sister to the eye specialist to find out if she could have a cataract done at a discount price only to be told she has to go to Brisbane to get it done at a discount and can't wait for the public system. I don't drive in Brisbane and would have to go with her of course as she has just turned 80, so we probably will have to take a bus to Brisbane, then get to a motel near the hospital, then get to and from the hospital for surgery, back to the motel, back to the hospital for a checkup the next day and back to the Transit Centre to catch the bus home.
After all that I was feeling a bit 'over it all' and when I got home I was driving the car into the garage when one of the chooks must have run under the wheel and was almost killed. I was really upset when the other chooks started to attack it so I slammed shut the door on them to protect her. Well not 'on' them exactly. She died soon after but I felt so bad. She was nowhere in sight when I started driving. Silly girl!
Anyway, sorry to be so cranky but I know some of my friends are waiting to hear the results of the swab which were inconclusive but at least it didn't show I had the plague. LOL!
Goodnight sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite!
Some days just do your head in - I understand.
ReplyDeleteWe all have our limits Nanna Chel...I'm convinced some days it just does not pay to get out of bed.
You're allowed to grumble....we'll cope :-)
Phil
Thanks Phil. I have told myself that there will be no more grumbling from now on :-)
DeleteOh my what a day you've had. I have been wondering how you were going and am pleased to hear the results came back fine. The main thing now is that it's healing and I know you will be back to your old self really quickly.
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating your sister needs to have her cataract done in Brisbane. Is there anyone who may be able to drive you both? Oh and then to end your day losing one of your chickens.
It can only get better from here Chel. Sending you love, hugs and positive thoughts xx
Kylie, no it's a bit difficult getting someone to drive us and I would never ask anyone anyway. I could try to drive to the hospital myself but I really don't know my way around Brisbane and may not get there in one piece.
DeleteOh you poor thing, things have been quite hard for you lately, I'm sorry to hear it. More prayers coming your way that all will be sorted soon. Take care, Guida.
ReplyDeleteThanks Guida. It's hard to know where to go from here but I guess I will just have to eat as well as I can and get back to normal ASAP.
DeleteOh no! What an awful day! Hope your mystery rash clears.
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz. The rash is getting a little better every day and is 100% on what it was this time last week.
DeleteWell that is very strange to be bitten in a supermarket but wwho knows what comes in on some of the produce.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you don't have the plague, maybe take some vitamin C to help your body heal and recover......Lindt do a nice Orange flavour dark chocolate...lol
Sorry about your suicidal chooky, sometimes accidents just happen, maybe you could throw a 'tanty'and finally get something done about the chook yard.
Suicidal chooky....that's funny, Margaret. I don't think throwing a 'tanty' will achieve anything much :-)
DeleteAs the saying goes "it never rains it pours" but I'm sure you would have preferred an ordinary rainfall rather than a mish mash of what was served. Sorry about your hen but they only have small brains and perhaps she thought she saw a bug in front of your car and couldn't think about anything else. She'll make nice fertiliser for a fruit tree.
ReplyDeleteYes Robyn, she is already hard at work in the compost heap as the CEO has HUGE compost heaps here.
DeleteTake care nannachel, hope things get better soon. So many things going...
ReplyDeleteThank you. Today was a much better day although I didn't achieve a lot.
DeleteOh my little bar brawler, you have been in the wars of late. Wish I was a bit closer to come and lend a hand. I would love to be in your garden with a set of snippers to help with pruning and to get some nice cuttings to bring home. When we head up to my Brothers place, on West St near the Buddhist monks, I'll have to get in contact and catch up. No idea when this will be.
ReplyDeleteJust give me six months warning Jane. I need that long to clean up the place :-)
DeleteHope tomorrow is a much better day for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pauline. It was a much better day.
DeleteChel, looking on the bright side, that's such good news that your swab didn't show up any horrible staph infections that are so difficult to move from the system once they get in. Your sister is so lucky to have you to help her, and I'm sure you will make the most of a visit to the City of Brisbane. :)
ReplyDeleteSally, I save the information you sent me for future reference. Yes I really thought that the test would show it was a bacterial infection so now I am not really sure what caused the rash.
DeleteGlad to hear there was no infection, Chel, even if the tests are inconclusive on what the cause was. Hope it all heals quickly and you'll be back to yourself again very soon. With such worry on your mind, no wonder you're feeling overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteAnd chooks do what chooks do, how ours haven't met the same fate here is pure luck - they're always running under the car. Big hugs.
Maddie
Maddie, I think what upset me most was the fact that the other chooks started attacking the injured one straight away. It was awful to see.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear of the events with your nose surgery and infection/rash. Are you thinking of asking for a copy of the pathology report or ask for it to be sent to your GP so that you can get a copy from them and discuss the report. Health practitioners need to be more transparent and it is disappointing, given what you went through, that you had to follow up. Also, sorry to hear about your hen. Things like this happen when we have lots on our mind. Take care and get well soon. KJ
ReplyDeleteKJ, I didn't actually see the pathology report as I just had to ring up for the results. If I have more trouble I might see a GP and ask the clinic to FAX over the pathology report.
DeleteOh dear, it sounds like you're still in the wars. I hope you're improving each day. Stings are terrible things, many of them last quite a while. I'm sorry about the chook. Hopefully you can organise something for your trip with your sister. Take care, Chel. xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Rhonda. I am getting better every day. I just need lots of Nanna naps though :-)
DeleteOh Chel! ....That's no good about your chookie, or your sister! Glad to hear posited news about your rash. Are you sure you didn't run over a chinaman recently? Your luck indicates that you may have!
ReplyDeleteHa ha @emmbee. No the only thing I have run over lately is a suicidal chook :-)
DeleteYou've had a bit of a "rough trot" lately, Nana Chel. I hope the results are positive when they do come back. Stings and bites can set off unusual reactions. My son was bitten by a wasp about a month ago, and to the consternation of everyone - including doctor - ended up with some hyperpigmentation on his tummy that looked like 5-6 splotches of coffee coloured freckles in the shape of a crescent moon. They've since disappeared! Take Care. Meg:)
ReplyDeleteMeg the results are back and are inconclusive. I am glad your son is okay as wasp bites are definitely not nice.
DeleteGlad to hear it's not an infection, but it is frustrating when you don't get an answer, hopefully it will resolve itself quickly, in the meantime lots of nanna naps.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. It is actually good weather for nanna naps at the moment with all the rain around....well mainly fog and mist here at present.
ReplyDeleteWhat a testing day you had. The grand day of patience! You guys must of done a lot of waiting around medical rooms, for appointments. At least the surgery has been completed, and hopefully your sister's sight will improve.
ReplyDeletePoor chook, but she did have a lovely free range life, and probably lived longer than most chooks would in the wild. If it helps you feel better about the other chooks, it's a way for nature to end suffering quickly. I've raised a lot of chicks and nursed old hens. I've come to the conclusion, the distress cry of a chicken, kicks in the predatorial drive. Rather than have an animal die slowly, in pain, the suffering can end quickly. It's awful if you have to witness it though.
In relation to the rash, I can understand the one under the eye, might relate to the insect bite, but under your nose, would relate more to the local aesthetic. The insect bite probably didn't help, but the fact the rash broke out under the nose (and nowhere on the cheek, under the insect bite) suggests the insect bite wasn't the cause.
It's important to determine if it was an allergic reaction to "that" particular local aesthetic, so in future, if another medical professional needs to use it, there will be a record you had a reaction to that brand. When you have recovered from your Brisbane epic, attempt calling the surgery to ask if it could have been an allergic reaction.
I'd be tempted to visit a GP independently, for a second opinion. It doesn't sound like the surgery is keen to sort answers out for you. They might just be busy. Although, the pathology tells us what it isn't, you need a medical opinion on the possibility of an allergic reaction. Simply because it's in your long term interests, to only use the drugs you won't react to. I have a friend going through her second bout of cancer treatments, and have seen what they put patients through (the drug mill) without checking the medications aren't contributing to a slow recovery. All it takes is a competent physician and a note placed on your medical records, and you won't ever have to live with those side-effects again. Especially if you need a course of regular treatments.
Get well soon Chel. :)
Chris I am not sure when my sister's catact will be organised in Brisbane so I just have to be ready to take her down she hears. I don't think it was the local that caused the problem unless the doc used a different one the second time as I was fine after the first surgery with just tihe expected swelling around the eye. If I keep having problems I will see a GP as you suggest.
DeleteGlad you're on the mend with that poor face.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbour doesn't drive either but social workers at the hospital she goes to for chemo have organised a taxi every day for her, I wonder if something similar could be organised for your sister? xox
Sue the problem is she can't wait to go on the public list to get the cataract done which would have been much easier as a bus would have taken her to the hospital in Brisbane I believe. She is going to have to go as a private patient.
DeleteMy what a lot of comments. You certainly have lots of friends out there. Nothing like a bit of illness to bring them out of the woodwork - she says as she crawls out from under a log. LOL FYI Surgery date 26 April. Im going to start blogging again soon so i have someone to talk to when im stuck at home. I have a sore on my finger from a spider bite in Jan while playing with the tomato plants. Ive taken steroid cream but it just wont go away. Sometimes its itchy and sometime a bit red but its basically annoying as it on the side of finger and it rubs when you hold things - like steering wheels. Hope you are feeling better soon. Housework can wait - its not going anywhere, trust me.
ReplyDeleteLynda, I am pleased you have crawled out from under your log. LOL! I have written the surgery date on my calendar. What a big op you will go through with such a long recovery time. You will have to be very patient and you definitely have to post on your blog about it. I hope that bite recovers soon as they can be very nasty.
DeleteI am just catching up here Chel. I am sorry that you have been having such a rough trot lately. I hope things improve quickly.
ReplyDeleteI am a bit behind too, Sherri. I hope things are looking up for you now. It has been quite the year hasn't it?
