Monday ~ Builders prepare for cabinets
Tuesday ~ Cabinet makers arrive. Kick Backs going down
New induction stove uncovered and moved out of kitchen to make room for workers. I fell over it the other night when I got up in the dark.
Cabinets going in where the old deceased wood stove stood.
Lots of mess
Not sure I like these shelves as I don't know what to put on them. Any ideas?
Thursday morning ~ Flooring put in
Thursday afternoon ~ Tiler puts up tiles
Getting there
Thursday afternoon ~ Painters start sanding under a tarp. Such a dreadful job for them.
Friday ~ Tiler puts on grout.
Sanding finished and by Saturday lunchtime priming is nearly finished as well. The two painters are such hard workers as are all the tradies we have had working on the house.
On Monday the bathroom will be gutted and then waterproofed before the tiles go in. We have been without a kitchen for two weeks and it will possibly be the same with the bathroom. I am looking forward to the electrician arriving on Monday to finish off in the kitchen and then I can actually boil an egg once again. LOL!
Enjoy what is left of the weekend everyone!
Chel, I know it must be stressful, but you will be so happy to have a new kitchen and bathroom soon. Kitchen is already looking good.
ReplyDeleteTake care. I hope your weekend is relaxing.
Thanks Nil. It looks like rain this week so hopefully the painters can leave the outside painting and do the kitchen and finish it off.
DeleteWhat a happy moment it will be to boil your egg in your new kitchen, Chel. You must be looking forward to that!! I love the green of your kitchen tiles, like granny smith apples. Beautiful! Meg:)
ReplyDeleteFancy longing for a boiled egg, Meg. Aaah, the simple things in life :-)
DeleteBeautiful succulent flowers, Chel. It probably hasn't felt like it for you, but that two weeks went fast! Almost there now. I bet you'll be getting Griffin and Gerty out, when the kitchen is back in action. Maybe you can get a few loaves in, before the summer temps start to rise again! I love that green by the way. I've always wanted green in my kitchen, but always stick with neutrals.
ReplyDeleteI have a corner cabinet like that, and I envy your pull out shelves! Ours are stationary. But it's given me some ideas. Our cupboard stores dinner and butter plates, breakfast and soup bowls, plus any serving dishes for special occasions. They go right up the back! If you've already got a spot for the dishes I mentioned, then use it for canning jars. Mine also holds those. Although because my shelves are stationary, I can stack them on top of each other.
Chris, the cactus orchids were all flowering at once the other day and I just had to take a photo. Those are my favourites. Thanks for the tips about the shelves. I stand in the empty kitchen and wonder where on earth I am going to put everything as the stove is going to be along a different wall from before so I will have to change the way I cook. I just realised this morning that Gertrude and Griffin must need a feed so I had better check them out today. I will definitely be making sourdough very soon. There are two ovens in the new stove and the bottom one has a side opening door.
ReplyDeletewOW, THAT IS A TRANSFORMATION! I love the apple green! You will love it when it is done.
ReplyDeleteBe warned Earthmotherwin...it is a very stressful process. LOL! I hope your renos are much quieter than ours.
Deletecan't wait to see the finished kitchen & the outside, must be such a relief getting it done; my neighbour up the hill, her husband just finished doing their house & he's in his late 70s! geez it looks good & nice & fresh
ReplyDeletehope it all goes speedily for you too
thanx for sharing
Selina, my hubby kept putting off painting the outside of the house and then it became a huge job for the painters. Thankfully we now have the money to pay for it all. A different story years ago though.
DeleteBeen there done that 3 yrs ago Chel. Much the same age of house too. I could match you for photos LOL .
ReplyDeleteIt is stressful but now it is done it is lovely and you will feel the same l am sure.
We got a new grandson in the middle of our reno and l was a bit worried about our girl. I now wonder if hubby organised the reno as a distraction....well it was LOL
I use the drawers for our everyday plates cups etc and the cnr cabinet for things l don't use as often. We had so much space after l did a big cull. A 2 person family does not need the kitchen ware of a 5 person family. I even have a drawer that we keep our bread , crackers and morning tea snacks in. It keeps the benchtop very clear.
Anyway it will all be done soon and it will be GREAT.
Apparently I can move the kitchen stuff back in but it looks so neat and tidy with nothing in it that I am procrastinating about that although I haven't had time to do anything today especially with the electricians putting in the power points and connecting up the stove. I will have to have a good think about where to put everything.
DeleteChel your house will really have the wow factor when it is finished. I think you just have to live in a new house, or renovated one for a while to work out where things go based on how you operate in your kitchen, and then you will probably change it. I did, ha, ha. Often saucepans go on those shelves because you can pull them out for ease of access, or perhaps you are putting those in a deep drawer. Depends on where else you have for plates etc I suppose. New kitchens have a lot of large drawers these days for plates etc. Envy you that stove, LOL. Hang in there and keep those tradies in check ha, ha.Cheers Pauline
ReplyDeletePauline, I tried to clean at the back of those pull out shelves today and then could hardly get myself out of the cupboard. I am glad nobody was standing behind me. There was fine dust in everything. Not sure if it was from the cabinet makers or the sanding the painters did. I feel like I am living in a dustbowl.
DeleteLove your green tiles in the kitchen. I have shelves like those in a corner cupboard, I keep the breadmaker, toaster, mixers there, off the bench but easily accessible. It'll be all done before you know and you'll be so pleased.
