I rarely use the PC I am typing this on. I can't do a blog post on my iPad nor on my phone which has a small screen so have to resort to the PC. However I have just realised that when I take photos on my phone and send them to Gmail so that I can then resize them to be suitable for a blog post the options for resizing have changed. Years ago I was told to keep them under a certain limit for a blog post as Blogger was complaining about the size of photos at the time.
Anyway I have tried my best to resize them to an acceptable size. Now Blogger has made changes and I can't even seem to comment on a comment a reader has made on my own blog when using my iPad so I have to use the silly phone with the little screen. Changes! Who need them?
Our Simple Living Toowoomba group is holding a seed and plant swap on Saturday before having a discussion about how to prepare a veggie garden for spring. It should be really enjoyable as one of our ladies who is leading the discussion has a veggie garden which is extremely productive. This will be our third last workshop as the group will fold in September after ten years. We have covered an extensive range of topics and it is hard to think of one we haven't covered before. Those who still want to get-together to keep in contact will still have the option of doing that.
Now I can't align the above photo in the centre for some reason but I wanted to show you one of the volunteer pumpkins that I posted about recently. One of five of them had been partly eaten by what I presume was a possum as I couldn't see any rat droppings nearby as I know rats love the seeds, so I got some chicken wire and covered the remaining pumpkins to no avail as I found another one that is half eaten. Sigh!

I was reading Rhonda's blog post today and noticed that she had written about knitting dishcloths https://down---to---earth.blogspot.com/2022/07/knitting-washcloths.html. It is so good to see her blogging again after losing Hanno. If you would like to learn how to knit she has some good links on her blog for beginners. I actually saw a man knitting in one of our large shopping centres the other day and that was a first. I know it is common for men to knit in the UK but not in Australia.
I hope everyone is keeping well although there seems to be a lot of sickness around lately here in Australia as it is a bad flu season apparently. I look forward to some sunny days once again like we usually get in winter after a crisp morning. I could never live in the Northern Hemisphere! Brrr!
The mandarin tree looks great...1978 was when I left school in Grade 10. I use blogspot and I don't have the little spanner icon where I can add to or take away blogs I like to read. So sad your group is disbanding after 10 years. I checked the weather yesterday and it was colder in Brisbane than it was in Sydney & Melbourne. Funny thing all day I was thinking it feels like when I lived in Melbourne. Mind you it was only a few degrees but it's cold for us Queenslanders. Speaking of Queenslanders I hope the Origin is good for Qld on the 13th July. Have a good week. Kathy
ReplyDeleteKathy, I am not sure how many changes Blogger has made. I am using my phone now as my iPad is no use for commenting anymore. I thought the sun was supposed to appear today but it is drizzling at the moment. I do hope Queensland wins the Origin has it's always special when the final is in Brisbane.
ReplyDeleteYes lets hope it's Queenslander all the way tomorrow night. Great price for bananas at 99 cents.
DeleteI have had trouble accessing Blogger as a reader, but not noticed changes as a writer. As this week is a good one for me accessing all the blogs I subscribe to, I am glad to read yours again. I have a mandarin, but have only had one crop in 8 years! I wonder if it is just too dry here for it. One time I went to a conference in the Sunshine Coast and I was so cold! I had not brought the right clothes at all, thinking "Queensland is warm". LOL
ReplyDeleteWell Queensland is usually warm in winter apart from our region which gets quite cold. Our temps are always lower than Brisbane's. We are usually in drought and always have mandarins but the rain had really helped this year.
DeleteThe rain has done dreadful things to my citrus. The oranges that are usually ready to eat in Summer all went mouldy and fell off the tree. I am rather hoping we do better this season but the mandarins are few and tiny after a bumper crop last year when we were locked out of our country home so they all went to waste. I am hanging out for my Navel oranges to be OK to harvest soon but they are worrying me by splitting their skins and dropping off the tree. The lemons are looking good though.
ReplyDeleteI don't envy you being in a Queensland home during a cold cold winter - I used to freeze when I visited my parents at our old family home in Nanango. Living down south makes us soft. We turn on the heater at the slightest drop in temperature.
Sorry to hear about the problems with your citrus. Ours are okay. It has warmed up now thankfully with rain on the way. Not much I hope.
DeleteHi Chel. Lovely photo of your garden, and flowers too. I have the delightful possom residents eating our pumpkins too. Fortunately the pumpkin vines multiplied and I was able to get a few. I've made pumpkin pie and hoping to make pumpkin gnocchi, next! Stay warm. Apparently we're expecting 7 degrees C here, over the next few nights. I can believe your estimation of 5 up the mountain, is spot-on! Brrr.
ReplyDeleteChris it is a lovely morning here with 18C forecast. Very nice after the cold weather. Pumpkin gnocchi sounds great.
