Unfortunately the only colours were white and black so I bought a white one. These are stainless steel and seem to be well made.
I had a look at the other 'green' products that were on sale and saw some beeswax wraps which are made in Australia by an Australian company....
....so bought a set of three for $9.99 which is a good price for wraps. As I am a procrastinator I have been meaning to make some for quite a while since we had a Simple Living Toowoomba workshop two years ago showing the process....
...but never got around to using the kit I had bought from Suanne at Green Dandelion. I just checked out Suanne's website and noticed that she is now selling Vegan Food Wrap Kits.
Also on sale were stainless steel pegs which I thought I would try. I was in a rush to get to the farmers' market so didn't take the time to dig out my glasses to read where they were made and someone did ask me that question on Instagram so I checked it out and they are made in China.

There are lots of other 'green' products on sale at ALDI this week if anyone is interested in checking them out. You can find them out here. The reusable straws would come in handy for families with children I would imagine.
By the way, I noticed on Annabel's blog The Bluebirds are Nesting that Jes from Strangers and Pilgrims on Earth is blogging once again after a break of over two years. Jes has just so much information on her blog about herbs, how to use fruit scraps and many other topics that you could spend a year just reading her old posts so I can highly recommend her blog as well as Annabel's too of course who I think is a real energiser bunny.
I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. There is a bit of a spike in numbers of people infected with the dreaded virus in Victoria at the moment so I hope things settle down there soon. Our Queensland Premier is under a lot of pressure to reopen our borders so time will tell what happens.
Have a wonderful weekend.
You got some good buys, Chel. I picked up a couple of things but didn't see wraps or pegs. I may go back annd look again. Meg:)
ReplyDeleteMeg, hopefully they haven't sold out at your local ALDI. I am not sure how long the pegs will last but will give them a try.
ReplyDeleteI went to Aldi on Wednesday to get the special buys realizing they are for Saturday. The reason I thought it was Saturday as they normally have big purchases on Saturday and I didn't think the eco stuff was large items so I'll be popping up there today. Honestly you have to get into Aldi to buy your groeries - I find I can't get everything there and as far as fruit and veggies go there is a lot of packaged/family stuff and sometimes I might want 1 or 2 items however mostly it's way cheaper. I buy my Organic Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Stock, Kleenex tissues, honey, jam, rice, pasta, tinned organic tomatoes, tinned chickpeas, corn, pineapple, maple syrup, butter, block cheese, medjool dates, frozen salmon, crumbed fish, mince, steak. Once you see the price savings you'll get used to the shop it is. eg tinned chickpeas are something like 85 cents vs $1.50 at the supermarket or $1.00 when on special. Pasta is 65 cents for a 500gm bag, jasmine rice is way cheaper too. Frozen peas, beans, stir fry are half or less than half the price at Aldi. I try and not go to the middle special isle because you will always want to buy something so I just basically do a shop there and top up at Woolworths with a couple of things I prefer like Tamar Valley Yoghurt and the frozen berries at Woollies. Have a good week. Kathy, Brisbane
ReplyDeleteKarhy, lately I haven't had to buy too much food as we stocked up a couple of months ago but my hubby always buys big bottles of olives at ALDI.
DeleteI like the compost bin. I use a plastic shoe box and it’s now stained and very ugly. LOL
ReplyDeleteI looked up to see if Aldi sells it here. They had had it in April, but it’s not available now.
Two years ago I bought a block of beeswax to make wraps and the block is still waiting. Sigh....
Nil, my beeswax and oil kit has pine resin added which apparently helps the wraps to cling better.
DeleteI don't do Aldi. I find all the brands confusing so am happy to pay the higher price at my regular supermarket. As we get older we consume less anyway.
ReplyDeleteNo we don't seem to go through as much food now either since our son moved out. I think people eat less when they get older.
DeleteWe don't have Aldi in Mackay so I can't be tempted, but I have often thought of buying those pegs. We made some beeswax wraps last year which turned out well and I am always surprised at how well they keep the vegetables fresh in the crisper and cover foods so well. We must make some more when we start harvesting honey again. I must check out Strangers and Pilgrims on Earth. Sound interesting. Have a great week Chel. Best wishes, Pauline
ReplyDeletePauline, I am surprised you don't have an ALDI in Mackay but perhaps they are mainly in the SE. We have three here for some reason.
DeleteI AM an Aldi shopper but missed all of these great bargains Chel. Dang! You did great! Mimi xxx
