The Can't Be Bothereds

Sometimes I can't be bothered blogging, cleaning windows, sorting through the 'junk' room and so on and so forth. Am I alone in feeling this way although I doubt it? Anyone who blogs knows that first you have to take photos, then you have to resize them for a blog post and then you need to be lucid enough to think of something sensible to write while other bloggers seemingly have a mine of information in their heads to share with the world in each and every post. Not so in this little neck of the woods unfortunately. Most of the time it takes too much effort to turn on the PC to write a post as normally I am on the iPad which is much more convenient but sadly can't be used to write a Blogger post unless someone can inform me of a new App that has been designed for that purpose.

Anyway, I did accomplish something last week and finished off hand sewing the plaited strips of fabric together that I had left over ....

...from the bunting I made a while back. It was time consuming but I didn't think my sewing machine could cope with sewing the plaits together so I did it by hand but it would have been quicker to use the 'Toothbrush Rag Rug' technique.

I discovered some guavas 'down the back'....

...but unfortunately so did the birds.

A friend told me that some of the shelves in KMart were half empty so I had to take a look for myself...

...and she wasn't wrong. Perhaps the store was waiting for products that were in the containers that fell off the container ship a few weeks ago. The ship was on the way from China.

The Farmers' Market continues to grow with every man and his dog there on a Saturday morning it seems. The lady who sells the gerberas seems to have an endless supply of these lovely flowers. I just had a look at the market's Facebook page and found on there a link to these great ideas on Get Smart with your Scraps.

The CEO found a tomato plant 'down the back' too ( all kinds of things can be found down there) and I had heard our local gardening guru Penny McKinlay say to put the tomatoes on a north facing window to ripen so gave it a try. Anyone who has heard Penny on the radio or seen her on Channel 7 local news would know what a character she is and she is worth listening to.

A friend gave me a Eucharist Lily which is just beautiful. I read online that it is frost tender so have brought it inside while it is flowering. I had never heard of this plant before.

Someone emailed me last week about 5 Road Trips to Bushfire Affected Areas which you might be interested in depending on where you live. At the moment our Queensland borders are closed and we will find out tomorrow if our Premier is going to open them to other states. As there is a spike in numbers of coronavirus infected residents in Victoria I am not sure that she will but she is under a lot of pressure to do so. Businesses are suffering badly so perhaps she will. Time will tell.

I hope that everyone is keeping safe and well. I have been having a couple of issues with Blogger and at times can't comment in response to comments others have left although they are usually few and far between lately but I guess everyone is busy. My sidebar is taking ages to download for some reason and I put it down to Blogger making changes they have been warning about but other blogs seem to be downloading okay so I am not sure what the problem is. I have no idea what the Blogger changes will look like so will just have to wait and see as it looks like the changes are going to take place regardless.

Have a great week!

  1. Chel, I gave up writing blog posts on the iPad a while ago. It’s not convenient at all. I think Blogger has fixed some issues with the new interface, but still I can’t add photos using the iPad.

I keep tomatoes on the kitchen window sill to ripen. But it faces East. I didn’t know about the right direction, and I don’t have a north facing window anyway. 😊

Your braided table mat is very nice. I have several balls of fabric strips to make mats, but they are still in a box, waiting for me .... 😊

I chuckled when I read how you went to KMart to see half empty shelves. Other people go to stores when they hear shelves are full, and you do the opposite. LOL 😂

    1. Nil, there used to be a Blogger App I wrote my posts with when away from home but it is not available anymore unfortunately.

  2. I too was taken back by the shelves in Kmart. I had popped in to get a kitchen storage container and nothing available only a few random small square sandwich types. Another reminder of how things can change quickly due to Covid19. The local Lifeline had just what I needed, glass and cheaper. Another lesson on reuse for me. Loved your little mat, so pretty. Cheers Bernie0

    1. Bernie, I was surprised how many shelves in KMart were almost empty. I rarely shop there anyway and just went in to check out the shelves for myself. It would be nice if we started manufacting products here at home again but I won't hold my breath.

  3. I like your table mat, Chel. I've never made anything like that. I can definitely be afflicted by the "can't be bothereds" at times but it pertains more to the ironing usually! And Summer can also bring it on as when it's too hot to move there's a lot I couldn't be bothered doing. I haven't ventured anywhere near a KMART or BIG W for months so haven't seen these empty shelves. As I haven't needed to visit these stores, I'm guessing whatever was on those shelves are things I don't need. MegXx

    1. Meg, I rarely achieve anything in summer as once the temp gets up to 35C or so I am exhausted from the heat. That is why I love winter so that I can actually do something so I really shouldn't procrastinate.

  4. Here is a comment Maria emailed me after having trouble leaving a comment here:

Yep! I regularly have bouts of ‘I can’t be bothered’...lots of them for the first 6 months of this year! It was mainly about sorting the photos I wanted to use from the photos stored on my phone and iPad.
When blogger on the iPad was playing up a few years ago and I was getting so frustrated, I ended up buying an app for less than $3. It worked brilliantly for just under a year and then it was hopeless. Eventually I bought another one after using its free version for a while. I’m now wondering whether it’s going to play up now as I’ve been using it for at least 2 years. Fingers crossed it’s okay! It’s Blog Touch and I usually write the posts on my phone but also have it on iPad.

  5. Lovely to see the Lilly in flower, next year it will have more flowers and they will start earlier.
My trusty Airfryer died this morning, so I was quickly out to Kmart (on daughters advice) and picked up the last one, 5.3 litre for only $89 Bargain !
They have been getting some stock in, as Saturday I was able to get the Bluey pajamas I have been waiting for since May.

    1. Thank goodness the lily is still alive but I can't say the same for the ornamental ginger. It isn't looking good at all 😳 I know you can't live without your Airfryer 😅😂🤣

  6. Chel have you seen that ad where the guys are standing around with their beers and they begin to admit to each other that they don't like drinking beer? Well, I don't like taking photos. I find it a real bother.
Thanks for the photos of the shelves in Kmart. I have been expecting supply problems to keep increasing and it seems to be so. I noticed it this week in Rivers in Bundy where there were many empty shelves that used to hold shoes. So it is not just in your area of the state.

I think your plaited rag rug is really pretty. I would like to make my own someday.
    Your Eucharist Lily is stunning.

    1. Sherri, I am glad to see your comment is showing as I am trying to work out this new process that Blogger is changing to. I wasn't sure how to get your comment 'published' at first.

  7. I usually get the blahs in Winter and wake up again in Spring. My niece told me kmart shelves were empty, probably because so much of the stuff comes from China. Even though the border is now open we won't be heading to Queensland this year.

  8. Chel, the Eucharist lillies are beautiful aren't they?I have a few of them and they always remind me of our trip to Cape tribulation years ago in Far North Queensland where they were growing everywhere. They just seem so white and pure. Yes Kmart is certainly an enigma here as well. At one stage the availability there was brilliant, so the boat from China now is definitely coming very slowly. You must be so proud of those tomatoes. We are watching our cherry tomato plants, hoping they will grow to a decent size. I think the cold weather can cause a certain lethargy. I have to say I often feel a lot better after venturing outside to walk the dog. It's not as cold here though.I always enjoy your blog post.I forwarded your last one I think onto my sister-in-law in Toowoomba and she was heading to Crows nest to buy some of those slippers.Take care, Pauline
