I have been in holiday mode and have been reading too many books so don't have much to say but I thought I would show you the cute Glass bird plant waterer I bought recently. It is a bit of nonsense I guess but would make a nice addition to the gift of a pot plant if you were giving one to a friend.
You just tip it upside down and fill it up through the stem and it takes about an hour to empty. It does siphon a little bit of dirt back up but that is easily washed out later on.
I have mine inside as I wouldn't like it outside in the sun. If you are interested in buying one here is the link .
The broms are really loving the rain and I am pleased I have been able to keep most of them alive by protecting them from the dreadful heat under the pecan nut tree.
Some produce beautiful flowers. If the rain keeps up I might even be tempted to plant a few vegetables but the weather would have to stay cool for that to happen as I don't have much energy in the heat. So much for getting older. Firstly though, I will have to tackle the weeds that are coming up absolutely everywhere.

ReplyDeleteNil, a storm just went through and we got about one and a half inches of rain which was great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely little bird. I think it is always worth buying things that make us happy. We would love some more rain. We have had about 20 mls over the past couple of weeks, but seem to always be on the edge of the storms and it had certainly rained more than that in dust! However we are better off than those who have had less and those who have had deluges that have washed top soil from paddocks.
ReplyDeleteWendy, the rainfall from the storms are very patchy and we often miss out but yesterday we had a downpour and got about 34mm in the rain gauge. Quite amazing after all this time.
DeleteCrazy isn't it ... to be delighted that the lawn needs mowing. I am still waiting here though there is a small sheen of green suggesting it might not be far away.
ReplyDeleteYes, I think the novelty will wear off after a while. Still it is so nice to see the green grass once again instead of it being brown and crunchy underfoot.

DeleteSO glad you have been getting good rain. We have had lots of humidity with the odd passing shower. We see the storm clouds building and feel it with the increase in humidity, and then watch as the storm splits are goes around us. Grr. Cant complain as we are getting coastal showers.

DeleteI'm late catching up with you Chel, I tend to just wait for updates on Instagram these days. Loved the look of the upcoming workshops in your area, hope you do dust off your sewing machine, my day's not complete if I haven't sat at the machine. I started some veggie seeds .....greens mainly, as the chooks like them so much.....before we had that lovely burst of rain....over 200mls down here.....and they're nearly ready to pick. I made sure to fence them, away from the greedy chickens, and strung some lines to hang some shade cloth over, so they're doing ok. I water them with my shower water. But you're right, it takes a lot of extra energy to garden in the heat, I tend to it late in the day, just before it's dark, or I wouldn't bother!

DeleteLawn mowing afoot here too, Chel. Isn't it amazing how fast crunchy brown grass can grow green again after rain! I saw on the forecast tonight there's more to come next week. That's a very sweet glass bird. Meg:)

DeleteEye-spy with my little eye, something beginning with Z. An indoors ZZ plant. Is this the one Rachel gifted you? I have one too. Dead easy to take care of. The hot and balmy nights have made it hard to sleep at night, even with the fan on. But it brought the rain, so I'll live with it. Our lawn mower has been working overtime too!
